Wouldn't that be nice!

I'd settle for aftermarket mags of any kind...

The opening in the bottom of the action is to small to get an ar mag high enough for the bolt to strip rounds.

PMAG's no, AICS mags yes. CDI has bottom metal and will inlet a factory Ruger or Boyd's stock for the AI short action mags: http://www.cdiprecisiongunworks.com, and there is also a MDT-LSS classis for the Ruger short action also using the AI mags. https://mdttac.com/lss-chassis-system.html

$250 to modify an $350 rifle.  Not sure I see the economic sense of that.

Not sure if anybody knows but ruger made a change in the 308 mags old one has a metal follower the new one is plastic.  I was having feeding issues with the old style.  I called ruger up and the send me a new mag.
