THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
When I fire the rifle it cycles the spent round out and place a fresh round in the chamber.the problem is unless I release the trigger the instant it fires, it wont reset the trigger. I then can rack another round. In and it will fire, but the same thing happenes.

If I test fire with no ammo, it will reset the trigger only if I release the trigger before cycling the bolt.

There is a small dimple on the primer on every round that goes in after the fired shot.I have ran about 20 rounds through it with the same results every time.

Any ideas? I just purchased it used and don't know any history on the gun, but it don't apear to have been shot much.serial number put it as an 89 model.

Something is causing the hammer hooks to fail to be caught by the trigger/disconnector.

Can you post photos of the trigger/hammer making contact?

The trigger/disconnector is not catching the hammer hooks, allowing the hammer to fall.
The primer dent you are seeing is from the round being chambered but the bolt is not fully locked when the hammer is following the bolt; stightly striking the primer.

You have not had an accidental discharge because the firing pin tail has to pass through a narrow cutout in the receiver bridge (prevented from fully moving forward in the bolt) until the bolt is fully locked forward.

A gunsmith could correct the trigger group to get it working. Ruger would probably fix it for you as well.

Don't shoot it until its fixed

Pull the trigger assembly, look for a partially pushed pin on the hammer. It can't wiggle out while installed but will cause this malfunction.

Good luck.

Ditto! An undersized hammer pin, working out will cause this. Best bet is to send it to Ruger. They will replace the entire trigger assembly, and you will be good to go.

Take out the trigger assembly and see if the disconnector (part #80 on this schematic) will catch the hammer when the trigger is pulled. A loose pin as (mentioned above) or a bad spring could be the root of the problem. I've even seen one trigger with a piece of metal jammed in there blocking the disconnector (I bet the owner though that letting the hammer follow the bolt might create an interesting situation...it does not)

Well I finally had time to take a look at it. Apparently the previous owner thought it would be a good idea to take the hammer and grind off the part that shouldn't be removed I returned it to the place it was purchased and was promptly given a refund.

That really sucks. It is generally good policy for shops to function test weapons that they take in on trade. Evidently your shop doesn't have this policy.

Sounds like Bubba thought taking the secondary sear catch off the hammer would make it fire full auto.
