I've only felt one up in a gunshop. I liked it; much nicer than the Savage Axis/Edge rifle. I'd buy one.

I looked at one at gander mountain. I liked the way it felt and looked but, when I turned it over I noticed the plastic detachable mag. would move up and down when locked in the gun. The mag. and the release were all plastic. Don't see how this could feed well or hold up very long.

I bought one in 308 today. When I pulled the bolt to clean it,I noticed the bolt face is machined like crap.Tons of tool marks and nowhere near flat. This is going back to Ruger for repair and getting sold.Ruger is dropping the ball a lot lately.

I handled one at SHOT, it seemed to me that it was kind of a cross between the Rem 710 and a Tikka T3.

It's a price-point gun.
Yes, our parts are tight, we did that on purpose.

Don't sweat it. It's a service rifle, not a Fabergé egg. "Hognose'

Tag for interest. I am looking for a budget entry 308. I like this better then the ATR but was interested in the savage Axis or saving for a used remmy 700 sps

I bought a new one in .243 for my wife. It's a pretty cool rifle. $350 out the door with free rings from my local dealer. Looks good , shoots good.

I bought one in .243 for a 4wheeler gun for coyote and deer. Shoots great, not worried about scratching it. Trigger is good. Nice, light 6 pounds. If the Tikka T3 was cheaper, I would have went that route.

I bought one in 3006 a few days ago. I like this rifle but there are a few things I don't care for.

The mag has a noticeable wobble when attached to the rife and the trigger still not as crisp as others in the price range. The Marlin trigger on their X series rifles I feel is better. I think it will serve me well as a hunting rifle for years to come as long as the plastic mag does not break.

I wouldn't worry about it. It's a Ruger! They have a long established reputation for fixing anything that breaks, and almost always for free!

When out and shot the 30 06 today. Was shooting Federal Fusion 180 gr and was shooting about 1" groups at a 100 or so yards using bipods. I am very happy overall with my purchase. I think the trigger will get better as it breaks in some. The recoil pad did a great job and even after 20 rds my shoulder did not hurt . Hope they make this rifle in 223, I would be buy it in a heart beat.

I want one of these just to beat up.

.223 would be a great idea I am thinking about that mossberg bolt action 223 it seems like a nice gun a little more expensive than the American.

I am holding out for the Ruger. I have looked at the Mossberg 223 with 18" barrel, the Marlin X series and Stevens 200.
The Mossy looks like it would be a great shooter but it is real heavy. I hope Ruger puts one out in the American series soon,.

I was trying to save up for a GSR but the price on the american has changed that, Ruger is the way to go I think worth the wait for 223 but i will need to decide 30-06 or 308 first.

I've got a savage in 30-06 that I love, was looking for a nice bolt 308 and once I touched the American I didn't go any further. Dropped a scope on it & took it to the range. Sight-in was 200yd zero and everything from bench to 800yds is cake. Be sure to let it cool a little between shots if you string more than 4 our 5 together or your pattern will spread but otherwise was one of the best investments this year.

Picked up a 308 this weekend. Took it to the range Sunday. The gun will flat out shoot. With a Bushnell 1.5 to 4.5 scope I was getting one MOA performance. I'm happy with it. Ruger is going to sell a lot of these.

They (.308) are very accurate, comfortable, have an excellent trigger pull, and are light and maneuverable. I was surprised to find that I felt no recoil. I thought with a light rifle I would get a little kick (I am used to the .30-06 and 7.62x54r) but I felt NOTHING.

The rifle and its components are not as polished as something more expensive, but if you keep it clean and oiled it will be just fine.

I am 100% happy with it and see no reason to get anything else for hunting.

LOL, exactly what I thought after posting that.

I think a mass email to Ruger is in order. every truck should come with those 2 rifles.

I got my ruger American the other day and i do think this is a nice rifle for the money. Now the magazine is a different story. The design is really bad and i had several jam ups before the magazine broke. I hope Ruger will replace it as i saw on their website that a replacement mag costs $40. So out of the whole 350 dollar rifle 40 of that is the magazine.

thats kinda shitty. I am waiting for ruger or any other company to start making stronger 10rd mags.
hopefully they help you out under warranty?

did you find a cause to the problem?

Yeah its the mag design. If you try to cycle the bolt quickly the ammo gets jammed up in the mag. Its just a bad design.
