My favorite gun of all time is the MP5.  I had a MP5SD in .22lr and also an AAC Element2 (sold the MP5SD because I couldn't thread my suppressor on it)

I am contemplating either buying a 9mm MP5, paying for 2 tax stamps and a new suppressor ... OR ... buying a different .22lr MP5 that I can SBR and throw my AAC Element2 on.

Thoughts?

Oh yeah ... and post your pics!

I'm waiting for Atlantic to restock so I can get my mp5(Mke) but those mp5 22lr are nice. I think Walther makes a version? The older gsg pre lawsuit are nice.
.22 although isn't like a round I like really. Other than price of course.

Details on where you purchased the .22lr MP5?

Did you chop and thread the barrel or buy a shorter one?

Started life as a vanilla GSG-5 carbine.  Form 1, then swapped in a 9" GSG-55P (Pistol) barrel.

I also have the barrel and bits to make it up as a -5PK, so when the mood strikes me, I dress it up as an MP5K.

Where did you get the pistol barrel?

And is this the MP5 you bought? https://www.cdnnsports.com/gsg-522-light-weight-22lr-16-25-fixed-stock-1-22.html

Would the Umarex/Walther .22lr be a better choice or is GSG good quality?

I've got the Walther mp5 22 and it is built really well and feels like a HK mp5.  I have not handled the gsg-522 version but it looks plastc and the lower doesn't look like a traditional mp5.  Their is an older version (before HK sued them) gsg-522 that supose to be well built and authentic if you can find one of those.

Here is a link to the Walther HK mp5 22lr

Detailed instructions for sbr conversion

Here is my MKE. Started as a pistol and SBR'd it. The can is my Octane 9. Very reliable and fun as hell.

I got the pistol barrel directly from ATI.  Don't know if you can do that anymore.

I bought the GSG-5 when it was the only game in town, before the lawsuit and before the "official" MP5 in .22LR.  I can't comment on their quality vs. ATI/GSG.

personal preference, but I don't get as much joy out of shooting 22LR as I used to. Kinda boring most of the time...so my vote is for whatever flavor of 9mm MKE makes you happiest.

I decided to go with the .22LR

My .22LR suppressor makes anything fun

I would go with the 9mm but it would be about $2,000 more and the bullet holes would only be a bit bigger

Love shooting 22lr for a fun Saturday of plinking away at steel and old bottles.  I've been shooting for about 30 years and I have to say 22lr is always a blast to shoot, but really shooting for fun is what you make of it.  I do like 9mm and 45acp but when plinking they are a bigger hole with a little more range and alot more cost.  Now for protection bigger is better but most of my shooting is practice and fun so 22lr works just fine and hitting a target with 22lr or 9mm it pings either way.

That is insanely badass.  I wish I could have a happy switch, but no one in my area allows it.

Suppressed semi-auto will have to do

Here's mine, an MKE Z-5RS SBR.

I have an A3 stock for it too, but the A2 stock is so comfortable that it stays on the gun almost full time.

Yes, you can. You have to call them to order it (it's not available on the website).  I bought one about February when I SBR'd mine.

Then you have to fill out a brief form saying you know you have to comply with NFA laws to buy the barrel.

The hard part is finding the barrel adapter for it.  No one makes one anymore, you have to either make it yourself or find one on the secondary market.  Fortunately, I found an original ATI adapter on the EE after only about six weeks of looking for it.

Picked up the can last Wednesday. I'll put a stock on it when I get or make the adapter I need. I want to use an A3 for a full size MP5.
