I have stripped charger receiver waiting to SBR.
Is it better to buy a $189 10/22 rifle and canabilize the parts?

I'd sell the wood stock, maybe $20? Sell the receiver, $50? Chop the barrel and deal with the retarded rear sight. Use the crappy trigger for the short term...

Otherwise, I'd buy a AGP stock, bx trigger, find a way to source a bolt and 4" barrel

Buy a charger pistol with desired barrel length, then add a regular 10/22 stock after?

I'm not familiar with any receiver changes ruger might have made to the charger receiver to prevent this, so it might not be plug-n-play.

Charger receivers are exactly the same as a 10/22. I have swapped parts to check and they all fit.  I am waiting on a form 1 for a Charger receiver as we speak. Pocket rifle in my future. Well not near future, the form was postmarked 7-12-2016. Wish me luck.

Do you think I should spend $190 and swap parts, selling and buying or just buy individual parts bit by bit?

I am buying one piece at a time when I find them cheap. I have put all of my 10/22 parts in and test fired it, so it works. It's really your preference but it's not a lot of parts. I may upgrade some parts for better function. I like the hunt.

Find a bolt off of eBay.

I'm using a Beyer 4.5" barrel for my SBR build.

I started with a Charger that came with a factory threaded barrel. Then I went with a 5.5" instead. For my stoch I used a cut down a Butler Creek folder.

I have the Charger TD. Stamp efiled on 7/7/16. Preordered the Magpul Backpacker. Limited on barrel choices.

Cheapest way or cheapest way for you?

My 10/22 SBR is simply a bone stock gun with the the barrel cut, and threaded right in front of were the wood stock ends.

I think for you, I'd go find a used 10/22 to take parts you want that are not ones you plan to purchase as aftermarket.

I think you might be best off to buy the cheapest 10/22 you can find and use the parts you need. Have the factory barrrel shortened to the length you want and you can chop the factory stock or go another route.

Brownells:

Charging Handle/Recoil Spring Asm. $10

Complete Bolt Asm. $34

Ruger Blued Barrel $47

You have the receiver.  Cut the barrel.  Get a stock.  Get a BX trigger.  Less than $100 shipped for the above.

Look around for a used 10/22, buy piece by piece, put the rest in a junk drawer or sell. I would invest in trigger and barrel. Makes a ton of difference.

For me, I would piece it together too.  That way I get the parts I want.  I usually end up saving money in the long run because I know I'll upgrade later anyways.

There are a couple of 10/22 parts kits on gunbroker right now. The bids are down around $37.50 at this time, but there is still about 6 more days for the auction's.

Cheapest way? Dont go SBR, brace it and spend that $200 on aftermarket stuff.

I'm thinking of doing what Mike at Nodak did, but only putting a shockwave brace on it.

Can you swap the charger receiver for a 10/22 rifle stock or will it not fit because the barrel?

It's not the reciever that you switch. It's the stock. Both the rifle and Charger use the same receiver.

Sorry worded that wrong. Can I take the charger receiver and front end of the charger takedown stock (with barrel) and put it in the 10/22 rifle stock below?

Yup. Only as long as you have your form 1 stamp in hand.

Received my stamp today.

I bought the charger takedown for $275 and picked up the new Magpul backpacker stock for $90. Great combination. Now I wish  my stamp for my 22lr silencer would come in.

IMO, if your doing a SBR .22, then you would be crazy not to try to get barrel down below 4.5" so you can use cheap high velocity ammo and it will stay subsonic through a suppressor. I am currently doing a Sig 522 SBR build and plan to go with a 4" barrel and then a longer handguard that will allow silencer to be 80% or so covered. If or rather when I do a 10/22 SBR build, only way I would go with barrel over 4.5" is if I was going with an integral suppressor barrel for a Ruger Charger. That would be pretty cool!

No, that is an ILWT HK Navy-style 3-lug adapter. It lets me use my Octane with 3-lug mount or it lets me take off the thread protector on the 3-lug and use 1/2x28 threaded rimfire suppressors.
