Anyone make a short barreled upper in 22 lr, or is building the upper even worth the time and money?
I cant see a reason to spend more than the cost of something else. (10/22 or ? )
But if someone makes a 5" blaster of a upper for cheaper, it may be fun

I don't know of any ready to buy 22lr uppers with a barrel that short, but it is a easy build.

CMMG makes a 4.5" barrel & bolt combo, that you can get for around $230 shipped. A stripped upper is around $50.00, and a handguard is about $70.00.

So, for approx $350.00 you have a nice SBR upper (not including sights).

Here is mine...

With the 7" handguard, the SilencerCo Sparrow sticks out about 5/8".  It's a lot of fun, and worth the $ in my mind.

Have fun,
Bob S.

Worth is subject to your needs but I feel mine is worth it especially for my daughter.  I took my 15/22 and sent the barrel to adco to be cut at 4.5 inches.
Fun gun and glad I did it.

Here is my SBR .22LR.

It was put together with a 4" Taccom barrel and a Sparrow.

Here is that upper on a full auto M-16 lower:

+1 I've got an ACI .22 upper and it runs awesome. I believe they assemble them using CMMG barrels and bolts.

From what I can see, these uppers run $550-$600 - unless you guys know a place for getting them cheaper, I think I'd rather build it for $350 if that is an option.

Believe they have run 20-25% off sales in past. Would be closer but that wouldn't get you to $350 if that's what you're shooting for.

Optics Planet - $259.49, and they run 10% off regularly.

You may have to wait a couple of weeks for them to get it in, but they usually run faster than their estimate.

Hope this helps,
Bob S.

I shoot .22 through a 7" psa upper suppressed, using a CMMG conversion bolt and black dog mags. Just as accurate as any of my other low end .22's, cheap, and the most fun I can have with my clothes on. Have fired thousands of rounds, and the only malfunctions that I have experienced were after several hundred rounds when my weapon was dry and dirty. Pretty economical setup as well as reserving the ability to shoot 5.56 through the same upper.

22 upper for an SBR is totally worth it! I compete in steel challenge and local 3 gun with mine, since you have to shoot 22 in rifle. It's a crappy barrel by buddy cut down to maybe 7" and threaded for a can. If I had to do over, I would go 4" or so to keep everything subsonic. but it has run and taught dozens of new shooters how to handle an AR.

I have a CMMG conversion and it's perfect.

I went with a 6.5" CMMG barrel and bolt, I recently switched it to a 4.5" (they didn't have that as an option when I purchased the 6.5").

I already had an M261 .22LR conversion, and lots of mags to go with it, so for my lightweight .22LR upper, I had a Green Mountain 1:12 barrel cut/threaded to 4", and added a dedicated .22LR can.

Super light weight and super quiet.  More fun than you're supposed to have with an AR.

Built mine a few years ago using a 5" Kuhn barrel custom made to mate with a Ciener kit (not sure if Kuhn is still in biz). The can is a Tac-Inc Quest.

It used to stovepipe a lot at first but fixed it with the CMMG charging handle specifically made for 22s. Also took a lot of tweaking to get it to run FA with my DIAS; but now that all those bugs are worked out, it's my absolute favorite toy that was worth everything I put into it.

Is there any one length of barrel that is better with .22 suppressed?  Or is this more of a personal choice?

Most people go 4.5" to keep high velocity/bulk pack ammo subsonic
