It was the MK18 thread that pushed me over the edge. Bastards!

I hunt predators and occasionally hogs at night with my AR's. A suppressor is great for night hunting, and gives you more opportunities both because the critters aren't as alerted by a suppressed shot and because it allows hunting in areas farmers or neighbors wouldn't otherwise allow because of the noise. No one really likes being woken up at 2:00 in the am to a gunshot, even if they know what the gunshot represents.
Suppressors on 16" AR's make the AR's long and unwieldy. A 7" or so suppressor on a 10.5" or 11.5" AR, on the other hand, ends up close to the same length as a 16" rifle. So, SBR's it is. JPK |

I had an AR pistol. I got tired of not being able to shoot it like I wanted, shouldered.
That was my first SBR. Then I built a 12.5", then a 8" 300blk and finished one this year, a 9mm AR SBR. They are too much fun to shoot and useful, not to have. |

I was happy with my SigBrace pistol. But some persons just had to keep writing letters asking for permission that was already granted.

AR Pistol with Sig Brace was a gateway drug for me. Once I used that for a while I could not go back.

In 2014 a guy let me shoot his suppressed 300BO SBR.
Now I have 8 stamps with 6 more arriving between October and December, if the trend holds. |

I'm actually debating this right now and I don't have a clue on what to do. I built an AR pistol and love it. I never want to shoot a 16 inch barrel again. It doesn't bother me too much that I have to cheek weld ONLY and can't shoulder and it sort of bothers me that I can't put a vfg on it. But being a pistol means I can have it in my car loaded. Carry it to order states easily. I already got the can for it. I guess a real stock and vfg would be nice. I just don't have that burn to sbr it... http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s189/jladelfa/A0363747-704D-4791-AB9A-081365A3EC43_zpshjpfwlcu.jpg View Quote Umm.....you live in Az, being a pistol or rifle loaded in a vehicle is a moot point. From the looks of that can, you're already playing the NFA game, so you may as well just do it. |

I carried a 10.5" M-4 at work for years, never missed a thing I aimed at out to about 250yds. Changed assignments and no longer had a need for it, so I turned it in. I missed it enough to build my own. 0nce I got my first form 1 approved, I went and ended up with about 15 stamps and 10 more pending!

Mk18 pics here and banging into damn near everything with a M4 during my OEF tour. Try being 6'1" and jumping in and out of a PLS cab a dozen times a day.
First a .22 can, then a AR SBR (Mk18-ish), then a 5.56 clone, then.... |
|
300 Blackout made me do it.
Also 4.5" barrel .22LR AR, with a suppressor is the most fun gun I own pretty much. |

Sandy hook.
Ammo was so expensive and range time was impossible to get in my area so i spent an entire year planning my dream gun instead of shooting. I used that time to finally do the research and figure out how the ATF process works. |
|
mine started as a G36C project. got that done and was content. then that whole 41P thing happened (have a trust), so i made 4 lowers in sbrs. have 2... 10.3 and 7.5. and 2 more just in case (1 is a 308 1 is 223). idk what the 223 will be and i have no real plans for a sbr 308, but figured better to have it and not need it, type thing. the g36c imo i like the most, barrel length wise. the 10.3 is nice but the 7.5 is stupid short (and loud).

I tried and didn't like an AR pistol. It just didn't feel right, like it wasn't at it's full potential (the SIG brace pushed me over the edge).
One thing led to another, now I'm a very happy SBR guy. Suppressed is the best! |
|
Always been a fan of short barrel rifles or SBR's for short. Their fun to shoot and great to own!

With the help of some nfa friends I got into sbr's When all your buddy's are riding in a side by side hog hunting with 8-10" rifles it makes you envious of how quick they can aim, maneuver, and shoot. Then it was this forum that got me going on suppressors, but that's another story. I'm 3 stamps in and waiting on 6 more, thought I was done but I just made my first post 41f purchase yesterday. When i can get my wife to understand the nfa game I'll really be winning.

MK18 clone thread.
That was a done deal after that. Now I have a handful of SBRs. If I'm in the mood to build a new AR, it's gotta be an SBR. They're not fun if they're not short and and with a can. |
|
I grew to hate the KAK arm brace on my AR 'pistol'.
Now I have a stock and it's much better. |

So why did you do it? Is it worth it? Is a pistol caliber carbine worth to get? View Quote I was running out of space in the safe, and SBRs allow me to stack two vertically instead. Stamps are cheaper than a second safe. Also, PCCs rock. Cheap(er) ammo (especially if you reload) like a 22lr, with recoil like a "real" gun. 147gr 9mms suppress very well (subsonic) as well. No matter what I'm doing at the range, the PCC always goes along. ETA: Hopefully OP is well on their way to an approved stamp by now. Minor necropost! |

Chicks dig it
Started with an 11.5" 556 ETA: didn't realize I responded to this four months ago lol |

Seeing a MK 18 Mod 0/ Block II in all of it's glory made me want to SBR a rifle. Taking half a foot off of a barrel makes it way more fun. This lead to other calibers and suppressors and now I basically only shoot quiet, short guns. NFA seems so daunting at first but once you get that first approval you're in trouble!

For me it was suppressors which lead to SBR's. Add a suppressor to a 16" AR and Dauuum that thing is long. Add a suppressor to a 10.5 rifle and it is about the same length as a 16" carbine. JPK View Quote Exactly this for me as well. Many many suppressors and 6 SBR's later I'm looking to get into the SBS game. |

I am not there yet but I am preparing to. I shot a 12.5 AR last December. The size and handiness of it did me in.

I got a Rock River PDS pistol (piston driven) that I bought for the sole purpose of SBRing with the folding stock. My stamp was approved almost a year and a half before Rock River released the stupid folding mechanism by itself so I could add a stock to it. 4 SBRs, 2 SBS and 5 silencers later and I'm still not done.

I bought an SL8 to turn it into a G36. always liked the C model. Got my trust at the same time as my tax refund. Now I have a G36C. Minus 2 sbr lowers (thanks 41P) im waiting on, i was lucky enough that i usually only had to wait 3-4 WEEKS with the e-file. 41P "made" my get my MP5. but now I have a 7.5 AR, 10.5 AR, 11.5 AR, 12.5 AR, MP5A3, and G36C. IDK what ill do with the 2 other SBR lowers.

Mostly 'cause they're cooler than hell.
Arfcom made me do it. A dude on the Arfcom FB page posted a picture of a sexy 11.5" suppressed SBR AR, and I was just totally smitten with it. I didn't think to ask the feller what the rifle consisted of, but it set the wheels in motion. Also, after seeing just how simple the process was at the time, I figured there was no real good reason to not build an SBR. My first one was approved a little over a week ago, and I'm slowly gathering parts up to build it. Along with the two other receivers I did, one's gonna be a 300 Blackout which I'm super excited about - I had no hands-on experience with 300 Blackout until this past summer, and after shooting one with subs and a suppressor, I knew I had to have one. And then there's a 9mm AR in the mix as well, I would have loved to have done an MP5 clone or a Scorpion before 41F, but I ran out of time and funds. Maybe I'll do one of those next. And yeah, whoever else mentioned it, the SBRs were the gateway to suppressors. Not just one, plural, multiple. Languishing away in NFA prison. I hate you Arfcom, but I love you at the same time. |

Silencershop
I ordered a silencer from them. In about zero time I had the trust in one hand, and thought hmmmm 2 hours I could have a new lower in my other.... |
