I've been digging the look of the PAP M92's with the manticore arms triangle side folding stock.  I have been debating whether I should sell my 9mm Keltec sub2000 (gen 1) to fund such a project...the keltec is cool but not super reliable and I would never use it if I really needed it for something.

Anyone have experience with turning an M92 into an SBR? Where did you put the engraving? Any issues with installing a side folder?

Also, any differences between M92's or are they pretty much all equal?  What about versus a Draco?

I have a Specwar 762, from what I've read getting the threads redone for an adapter to mount the sico brake might not be feasible, but dang those AK's look pretty cool so I think I can deal with the noise :)

I have a registered AR lower already with several uppers and have gone through the form 1 process before, I am thinking it will be easier to SBR an AK before July rather than after since I'll be using my trust.  I could always pick up a gen2 kel tec if the opportunity arose in the future.  I think a shorty AK would be much more reliable and a little cheaper to feed if I buy ammo.  I hate the idea of selling a gun but I don't think I could justify the extra $700 before July comes.

Any tips or input is welcome :)

I SBR'ed a Draco, liked it more than the PAP. Altogether it will run you about thousand. Draco was five bills, two hundred for the stamp and another three for the furniture, mags, compliance parts, hinge and triangle stock. With the PAP you would also need a wedge for hinge.

I SBRed my M92.  I did an underfolder because I like them.  I engraved it right in front of the mag well.  It's a fun little rifle.  It's overgassed with my can unfortunately.  I made my own adapter to the Yugo threads.

What underfolder did you go with? Did you have to replace the rear trunion? Are the original serial numbers In the way or has that issue been rectified or not an issue?

I drilled the receiver rather than changing trunnions.  I used a brand new Polish stock from Apex.  Serials not affected at all.

Well the Draco comes with a chrome lined barrel, it helps even though I don't shoot the corrosive stuff aside from that I can use regular AK furniture up front. Don't have restrict myself to what's available for the PAP. Last I liked the gas block, barrel front of the Draco more than the PAP. i had it engraved on the underside in front of the magwell.

I did a left hand side folder on my M92, I love it, it's a blast to shoot. I kept the rear trunnion at the proper angle for the recoil rod and used neodymium magnets in the catch area of the stock for retention when closed.

Damn the magnets are a great idea.

I have everything I need for my 85 including the stamp. Need to get it engraved and drill the receiver. Still haven't decided if I wan't to put the support inside or just tap the receiver. Bought the Manticore triangle and whichever side folder mechanism they were selling.

On my M85 I swapped to a Yugo rear trunion and did the Magpul Yugo stock. Couple blank rivets for the forward holes and two new holes for the install. Eventually I'll cut off the fake can for SBR. But it'll give you some ideas.

Damn, I never even thought of just using blank rivets to fill in the holes. I want to do a fixed stock trunnion on my M92 and that just might be the ticket since I can't weld worth beans.

This looks awesome! Did your wood come that color or did you stain it?

Thanks everyone for the pics and ideas. They look great!

I think I'm sold on the M92, just have to get rid of the keltec first :)

IIRC, he used Behlen Medium Red Mahogany wood dye. At least that's what I recommended to him when we were talking about refinishing our handguards. It's what I used on mine as well.

I have my Form 1 back on my M92 but am waiting to swap rear trunnions so I can put a fixed wood stock on it. Here it is in its current configuration, "Ugly-assed Missouri Alternative Methods Deer Season Pistol Mode":

Here's my M92 build from a couple of years ago--

https://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=6&f=51&t=426415

I will say, I did a follow up AK/SBR/Krink build in 5.45 and it is noticeably lighter; unfortunately, the starting gun
I used is hard to find now, and much more expensive than a PAP M92 even if you can locate one--

SLR 104-53

...vs Gunbroker is more or less awash with $500 M92's--

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=556725280

Good Luck!

Here is my M92 SBR.  I also just drilled out the rear of the receiver to install the stock.  Great little gun.

That's exactly what I've got in mind. The proper UF is my preference as well. Is the trunnion solid or a folder trunnion?

I will have to ask my brother since he was the one that sent them off (local to him, TX). The work is nice, the side folder is fit well, but it took FOREVER. Literally I think we were quoted a few months, and it was well over a year.  Also it was supposed to be 1 side folder and 1 under folder but when we received the rifles, we realized he messed up and made them both side folders.  Eh, the side folders cost more to build anyway, so I didn't mind.

The journey has started:

It will go nicely with the other AK:

I'm going to test fire it tomorrow, then Efile the form 1.  I need to order a krink brake and refinish the wood as well.

I think I'll go with the manticore side folder vs a trunion replacement.  I don't real like the us machine gun adapters either.

This thread is awesome, thanks for the input :)

Please keep updating this thread, I am planning the same build (PAP arrived last week) and would like to see what you learn in the process.

Just got the m92 engraved today. I refinished the hand guards, changed out the muzzle device, added a moe AK grip and am installing the ALG AKT trigger tomorrow.  Once I shoot it again to make sure it works perfect I'll Efile the form 1 and the wait can begin!

Here's how it looks now:

Here's how it was when I bought it:
