Just curious how much everyone's sbr's weigh. Anyone with a really light one? What parts. Realized mine need to go on a diet.
I just weighed my 9 inch AAC on seekins forged lower. Magpul furniture with kac urx4 rail and aimpoint pro. Weighed in at 6 lbs 15 oz. Weighed my seekins precision combat 10.5 inch upper on seekins sp223 lower with magpul furniture. Has a Trijicon tr24 in an adm recon mount and it weighed in at *gasp* 8 lbs 4.5 oz I'm going to try to make a lighter one, and it will be based around a noveske lower with flared magwell. What's a low obtainable weight? Best places to shave weight (I'm thinking optic would be easiet). Where else? Low mass bcg? |

That Noveske lower must be one of the heaviest around. My 10.5" comes in at 7 lbs, 4.60 ounces with the silencer. My 14.5" weighs 6 lbs, 14.55 ounces - no silencer. Weight is cumulative...start with a lightweight upper and lower. The biggest areas to shave weight are the barrel, handguard, stock, and optic. An Aimpoint T1 or a TA33 ACOG are great lightweight choices. The BCM KMR handguard will be one of the lightest options. BCM and Faxon both make very lightweight barrels. |

I was reading up on optic weights. Seems like the t1 is the lightest around, beating out the t2 and and MRO. Right now I have a Trijicon rmr on an adm mount which I'm planning to use. Going with a noveske 8.2 inch 300 blk barrel

Mine weighs about 8 lbs unloaded.
Frankly, I like it heavy. The UBR stock and the can hanging off the front, combined with the mild recoil of the .300 BLK cartridge, make for very fast follow-up shots. |

My 10.3" block ii cqbr weighs in at a little under 9lbs. I'm of the belief that if that's too heavy for me, then I should be more worried about working out than shaving weight. However, if you are set on trimming some, I would start with the optic.

A great light weight set and rail is the 2A Arms Balios Lite. I own two sets and theyou are phenomenal. If I remember I will get you a weight of my SBR when I get home.
Barrel profile is a huge place to save weight. " /> |

Kinda hard to save weight on a SBR barrel profile huh? Most of them look to be about the same thickness to me. And I used to have an acog, but felt it was a little heavy for what it was.

Why does your rifle need to go on a diet? I see posts like this all the time, all this time and money wasted for what, a couple ounces? If your rifle has everything you need to get the job done, then its as light as its going to get. And if your worried about carrying a few extra ounces, then you probably need the gym more than lighter rifle parts.

Is that the Arisaka Mini Scout Light? If so, how do you like it? I definitely back up the Aimpoint vs. Eotech decision. I have a review posted here regarding the differences. The light is a Malkoff head, Arisaka body, and Surefire tailcap mounted on an Arisaka inline Keymod mount. It's absolutely perfect, I can't imagine changing anything about it and both the weight and light output are amazing. I put it together before Arisaka came out with their tailcap, so I can't speak to that difference, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy their pre-made setup. |

...What's a low obtainable weight? Best places to shave weight (I'm thinking optic would be easiet). Where else? Low mass bcg? View Quote Quickest (but not cheapest) weight savings will be in BCG. I used the Boomfab AR-15 Titane (Titanium) Bolt Carrier. Lightest with most info out there on use and reliability. With that you will need an adjustable gas block. I like the SLR Rifleworks Sentry 7 Adjustable Titanium Set Screw Gas Block for the 300 blackout setup. A lightweight barrel nut is a good place to look. 2A Armament has one for their rail that is aluminum. Their rail comes with a titanium nut. Still lighter than steel but not as light as aluminum. Other things to consider are barrel fluting, stock, grip, etc etc. Bottom line, to get an ultralight rifle, SBR or otherwise, will require you to look at every single part. I still have room to shed some off of mine and I will. Grams add up to ounces and ounces add up to pounds. Also, Look at 2A Armament's Adjustable BCG. They built gas flow adjustment into the lightweight BCG, eliminating need for adjustable gas block. I have not run one (yet) but they do build nice stuff. |
