Here's the deal. I've sent in by Form 1 to build an SBR (I know I should have got the engraving done first...) and while I'm waiting for approval I want to knock out the engraving. There aren't any places that can engrave it where I live, but across the river in Illinois there's a place that can do it.

But I want to make sure I don't get in trouble by traveling into a not very free state with my lower. At this point it's almost stripped, the only things installed are the trigger guard and the front pivot pin. But, still, it's technically a firearm, right?

Am I just too paranoid of Illinois?

It's a firearm by law, but not an NFA firearm.

I'm not saying that. I know nothing about IL firearms laws except in certain locations they suck a whole lot worse than others. I'm just saying you don't have to worry about 5320.20 forms and it being an NFA item in a non-friendly state.

My brother moved from there last year. I seem to remember him talking about how he was supposed to have his FOID card before even taking things to the range. I would ask in the IL HTF.
