Would buying a complete 9MM rifle and then shortening and rethreading the barrel be ?
The 639 kits are selling near the same price as the rifles themselves.
This way would give me a complete sellable 9MM lower to recoup some expenses.
I want all Colt parts if possible.

Is this a logical road to take ?

That sounds like a huge hassle.

For the price of a mag block you would need you could pretty much buy another complete 9mm lower.

If I were you I would just keep your colt SBR in .223 as is and either SBR another dedicated 9mm lower or build a 9mm AR pistol if you don't want to pay for another stamp.

ETA: The AR pistol would be able to cross state lines without paperwork as well, however if I recall correctly Texas has some weird pistol open carry laws?

If you want all colt parts then yes that is a option. So long as you realize you can build a complete gun for half of what the colt costs.

I bought a 6951 and then had the barrel cut to 10.5 in and threaded 1/2x28 so i could use my 9mm can on it.  I also had the gunsmith bore out a 5.56 a2 FH so that it would work on the 9mm.  I think i paid $1050 for the rifle, $200 for the stamp, and $75ish to have it cut, crowned, and threaded.  So like $1300 total.

Do you have any pics? I have a 6951 and am thinking of doing the exact same thing.

Could always use a drop in mag block like a Hahn and just swap uppers when you want to shoot it.

This is it in a previous form.  It now has a Colt N1 stock and CAR skinny handguards on it.
