I'm considering building a small, lightweight 7.5" pdw ar and was wondering about the reliability of this barrel length with pistol gas system.  Any issues with this?  Personal experiences?

Thanks,
Mark

I have had no issues with mine once the correct buffer weight was determined...

I dont have mine anymore, but I never had an issue with it.  It was fun as hell to shoot too!

Nothing special, other than a FA BCG.  Standard buffer, standard spring.   It ran flawlessly.

No problems. Lots of fun to shoot, gathers a lot of attention when doing so.

a 7" barreled upper was my first ar years ago , i parted it out recently to build a more suppressor friendly upper but i will build another , so much fun.

i know you said 7.5" but you might want to check out noveske's navy barrel.  you can run it with a 7" carbine rail and still have the muzzle device clear the rail for a can , and only adds about an inch to your overall length.

gratuitous motivational pic

If you have a common type adjustable stock, your AOL will be 19" + barrel length or close enough to it...

I built a 7 inch upper for my sbr.
It is fun at the range, but that's about it. It runs good with a heavy buffer.

For me, 8 or 9 inch in blackout, minimum 10.5 for 5.56.

Mine needed a H2 buffer to run reliably.  The chamber on the barrel is also a little tight so it wont run steel cased, but it runs like a raped ape with brass.  Lot of fun to shoot, but the muzzle blast is intense, I have a KX3 on the end to direct the deafening concussive blast away from me.

Do it!
After building this one, gave it its only cleaning. Currently have about 800 rounds thru it with zero issues. Pretty accurate out to 200yds as well.
Hoping to get to the 2K round count before the next cleaning to test reliability.
Ran fine with carbine buffer. Brass had some pull marks. Threw in an H2 buffer, and it functions fine.

Here's my 7.5" SBR. It has a RRA barrel. Below it is a cmmg 4.5" .22LR upper with suppressor.
