What  are my options?   I want small and discreet.  No tennis bags or violin cases.  Just the smallest bag or case to fit a broken down 10.5" SBR and a couple of mags.

Something like a usgi tanker tool bag, but in black or a padded messenger bag.

There's the 5.11 Select Carry pack which will hold an unassembled 16" AR15.

A 10.5" gun is a little too long to fit. I could just get a 7.5" gun to fit, assembled.

ETA: I know you said no violin cases, but I kind of like the looks of this one, just because.

When I go places i carry two SBR's in a pelican 1720. But I also can carry 1, 2  if i really wanna fill the bag, in a VERY slim Oakley school bag. It has a "laptop" compartment, that fits the lower perfectly and protects the lower from being scratched by the upper.  Has a Second compartment that can fit another lower or upper. Also pockets on each side and small compartment in the front that'll fit a few mags.  More discreet than the noveske bag.

This is my backpack, Bought one a week ago at the Oakley store for 30 dollars.

my brother carries his in this:
http://www.surfoutlet.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=8116138-0001&gclid=CIfYqf-chcECFZTm7Aod7GEAmg#color=27248

significantly bigger in every dimension. doesn't hold the rifle still very well in my opinion.

I also have a "tactical bag" that fits my 5.5 inch 9mm SBR broken down in. But wouldn't fit my 10.5 inch upper. I don't ever use it since I don't wanna draw attention to it.

Thanks for the replies.  I'd rather it not look like a gun case.  I know the Storm/Pelican cases are not specifically gun cases, but they scream valuables inside.  The Smaller Larue and Eagle type cases are not that discrete either.  I know they're quality gear, just not what I'm looking for.

Here you go, just a little pricey:

I also like the 5.11 COVRT bags, they don't scream "GUN"

http://www.511tactical.com/covrt-m4-shorty.html

Here's the M4 Shorty bag, depending on your muzzle device, you might fit your 10.5" in there, assembled.

I was going to suggest this, but it's harder to be discreet when it's covered in molle web.
I guess you could always cut it off.

I got a Blackhawk Diversion Racquet bag for my 10.5" SBR last month, for under $50.  It seems well made despite being inexpensive, doesn't scream "gun", and is just the right size to hold the gun with an Aimpoint on top and a 20-round mag inserted.

ETA: it's both discrete and discreet.

I use the tanker tool bag. I do wish I had one in black though.

Not super discreet, but also doesn't scream gun case.  I got one of these during one of there numerous Eagle clearance sales for half the price they are showing.  Fits my 12inch barreled SBR in one piece plus mag pouches in the front section with room to spare for other stuff.

UTG Sling Pack doesn't scream gun, nor anything else. The link goes to the 34" version.  I have the 30" version and it snugly fits an 11.5" SBR with A2 FH.  Works fine to transport firearm to and from the range.

I've been wanting to try a Pelican 1495 laptop case.  If you break down the SBR then you should be able to fit it...  A little expensive though.

I'd forgotten about that one.  It would make a nice "not a gun" case, especially in "not black" colors.  Would be perfect for a trunk gun.  And if a folding AK would fit, an AR15 SBR should fit assembled as well.

Take a look at the Eberlestock Cherrybomb. I carry my 10.5" SBR in it and theres nothing about it that screams "gun bag" it just looks a regular outdoor activity backpack, and it very well made.

Its a snug fit with the 10.5" bbl, but I have a LWRC ultra compact stock on my SBR. With something like a magpul CTR I think you can only get a 7.5-8.5 inch bbl weapon in there.

Its a little pricey but is very well laid out and practical.

I use this. Bought it for my computer for vacation time. But use it for my SBR on a daily basis. It has 2 comparments where I put each piece in. Plus it had two small bag where a 30 round mag fits in snug. When people ask me at work what's in the bag, I tell them the truth. Personal things that I don't want stolen from my house. ;)

I was asked about my UTG Sling Pack (link posted above) once.  "Squash racquets" was my response.    No one wants to talk about squash I guess.

If you wanted a discreet hard case, you could just go out and buy a tool box for it.

I have been using one of the Condor 164 Transporter cases for years and i haven't had any issues with it.

I have a LaRue discreet rifle case, but that mostly just stays at home.
