i'm looking to get an M&P22 cut down for an SBR so i can teach my daughter how to shoot. i haven't purchased the rifle yet, but from reading about it online, it seems like the barrel is not attached to the receiver in a traditional manner.

how have people had it cut down? just send the upper without the internals to ADCO or a similar shop?

Use the proper wrench to remove the barrel before sending it in.

I'm hoping you're cutting down an M&P 15-22 (top)...not an M&P 22 (bottom).

You can get the wrench you need for ~$30...or make your own. If you'd rather just send it to ADCO, there's a $50 disassemble/reassemble fee. Plus, shipping will cost more both ways sending a heavier/bigger box.

I cut mine down to ~6" and kept the stub. Has ADCO cut it to 4.5" and thread it to SiCo o-ring engagement specs.

Buy the wrench...it's cheaper in the long run, and then you'll have it handy when you need to retighten the nut after you notice your accuracy suffers a little after several thousand rounds.

It's a fake one, as well as the one on the 15-22 in that pic I had three made by a guy I found on eBay. They're basically identical in diameter and length to a Spectre II. I had them made to test out some SBR builds (the 15-22 above, and a 6" AR57). It weighs 6.5oz, so it does feel similar to the 6.8oz Spectre II. It's nice to have to get a feel for the Spectre II.

Pic of Spectre II on the same M&P22:

And the real one next to a fake:

I figured it was either fake or something made in the 80's
