10"? 12"? etc.

I want it to be reliable both with, and without a suppressor. Preferably, it will also be reliable with 300 Blackout.
I read that going too short can cause feeding(?) issues. How short can I go?

Thanks.

No shorter than 10.5. Most cans are not warranted shorter than that.

Consider a 12 inch.  For 5.56, shorter than 12 cheats you out of ballistic performance.

I always answer with "as short as possible":  10.3".

To me, it's not worth the $200, the (e)paperwork and putting a lower which (in my case) is off the record back on the record to go anything less the all the way.

If only one 5.56 SBR, I'd go 11.5".

If two 5.56 SBRs, I'd go 11.5" and 10.3".

And the correct answer is at least two btw.

10.3/10.5" for 5.56

and 8" for .300blk

One and only one?  11.5"
#2 12.5

I ended up liking my 12.5s more than my 10.3

But my 10.3 is cool

Fuckin' loud bastards all need cans, so save up OP

If I don't upgrade momma's kitchen, she is going to clip me!  I just did the floors on the lower level to make up for all this SBR shit

I know where you're coming from. I've had a few close calls from the wifey due to BRD.

I'll just say that if between an SBR and a can, I'd go can. I won't even shoot any of my AR platform rifles without a can anymore.

But you need several of both, so who am I kidding.

Short and suppressed is truly where it's at.

I had the Surefires in the cart, and then all that eForm shutdown shit happened that very day, and I was NFA FED UP.   I spent the cash on my IDF 12.5, and more glass, and triggers and...

11.5".

After that you can get other uppers. Which lead to more stamps.

NFA is addictive.

I only own one rifle, a MK18.

SBRs dont have the reliability issues they used too, firearm manufacturers have worked out the issues. the people who do have issues usually arent familiar enough or patient enough to fix the issues. My MK18 with its 10.3" barrel works flawlessly suppressed or unsuppressed, in semi auto and full auto.

You need to pick what rifle is best for YOU! i personally dont need long range capability, certainly no more than 100 yards so for plinking, and home defense a MK18 made perfect sense. If you like to engage targets beyond 100 yards you might want to look into a 11.5, 12.5 or even a 14.5 barrel but honestly at 14.5 why the hell even bother with a SBR, if you go through the NFA hassle it better be worth it unless youre reducing significant weight and length from the gun dont waste your time or money.

Oh, and having owned a Mk18 for awhile now, i find myself thinking "it sure would be nice if this was just a couple inches shorter" plus once you add a suppressor on the end it doesnt feel like a SBR anymore.

Have an 8.2" 300BLK and a 12.5" 5.56.  Love the blackout, but the middy handguard on the 12.5" is more ergonomic.

I have had a 9" (300BLK), 10", 10.5", 11.5", and 12.5" SBR.  I still have the 10" mainly because it is not an AR.  My 12.5" Kino is the most fun to shoot and it suppresses noticeably better than the 10".

I started out with a 10.5" 5.56  Noveske.  I never had any problems.  I converted it to a 12.5" when I got a 9" .300 BLK.  Now I have a 10" AK to go with the others...  I just don't really see the point of a 11.5" gun.
