Finally finished my 9mm SBR project:

The upper is by Spike's tactical; suppressor is a Ti-Rant 9.

Comments welcome...

Lookin' good man. How's it run and what optic are you gonna use?

Only shot it once so far but no problems.

Yeah, definitely need an optic or some sights-- any suggestions from
those with similar weapons...?

I've got an Aimpoint Pro on my 9mm AR, went with it because of the battery life since it's my new bedside gun with the 45 Octane on it and it stays on all the time.

If I'm seeing the pic right, that's an RRA with the integrated magwell? Was going to ask which adapter you were using, but I don't think that's a relevant question.

How long is the barrel?

I went with a 7", and use a SPARC and MBUS sights. Just waiting on approval of 45Osprey in the next week or two, then an Octane 9 that's still waiting on check to me cash by ATF.

I really like the Metalform mags. Do they work in the RRA model? Not seeing much of a description on their site.

Very nice build Shadow!  I would consider an Aimpoint T1.

Interesting.  Did you buy this recently?

I've got a Spike's 9mm upper that I bought 8 or 10 years ago which, like yours, uses an actual "9mm" upper. I bought it from someone here off the EE. Like yours, it has on forward assist, and no case deflector.  It also has no gas tube hole, so you would not be able to use it with a .223 barrel.

I usually can't find anyone selling the 9mm-specific uppers like what you show, including Spike's.  Most places just repurpose a .223 upper, leaving the (non-functional) forward assist in place, as well as the case deflector.  The 9mm gas deflector fits in front of the case deflector.

I see Spike's currently has a "slick side" upper, which is the closest I've seen in a while.  It has no forward assist, but it does still have the case deflector.

Here's what the upper originally looked like.

And what it looks like now.

I wish those damn dedicated 9mm lowers were around when I built my 9mm SBR.

Still thinking of picking one up at some point and form 1'ing it and use the old lower for a SBR .22 build.

If you're using it for anything serious I'd buy an Aimpoint H-1, save a few bucks over the T-1. If it's just a fun gun a Primary Arms Micro Dot would be OK.

A 9mm AR is going to be my next build, I think.  Just sent paperwork in for Tirant 9 and thinking about picking up a T45 as well.

Post more pics, people.  I need ideas.

Standard AR lower by Aero Precision. Hahn dedicated magwell adapter for mine.

And I'm still curious about OP's barrel length.

Is there a particular reason for choosing that direction over say going with a CMMG dedicated lower?

It's nice to be able to go back to a standard magwell if you want to.

That's one reason. I also built all of mine to be identical in feel, regardless of caliber or length. So, I have 11 builds with PSA MOE LBKs. I didn't look at dedicated lowers to see if they were compatible. The Hahn dedicated adapter allows for LRBHO without any other mods, and without a tension screw. The only thing that would be required to remove it is take out the bolt release pin.

Plus...I found these lowers in stock, and it was hard to pass up!!

I'm running a dedicated CMMG 9mm lower mainly because I wanted to use fewer parts, and the nice mag blocks cost damn near as much as a stripped 9mm lower anyways.  I would like to get my hands on a DDLES lower, supposedly someone is in the process of taking over that operation and getting it restarted.

Still waiting on the stamp....I would go with a lightweight optic light a T1 or T1 clone from Primary Arms:

SRS is a bit heavy...but it works really well:

Yes-- I've already eFormed-1 a couple of straight AR lowers, so in my case didn't see a big deal
with going dedicated 9mm for this platform.  Barrel is 6" in length.

I really like the Metalform mags. Do they work in the RRA model?
View Quote

I haven't done any sort of 'exhaustive' testing by any means; but the Metalform mags seem
to fit my RRA lower & feed with no problems I can find (and hold the bolt open after
the last shot)

Interesting. Did you buy this recently?
View Quote

Yes, purchased off Gunbroker in January; from what I understand, Spike's is discontinuing
this line.

I wish those damn dedicated 9mm lowers were around when I built my 9mm SBR.
View Quote

I actually purchased the complete RRA 9mm pistol, and then replaced the upper to get the look I wanted:

Very nice what mags are you using? Colt or Uzi?
View Quote

It came with a converted UZI mag I believe; I've additionally picked up a couple of the metalform
ones, so far.

Finally--thanks for all of the optic suggestions thus far.  I'm probably just going to start with Magpul
flip-up sights, and add the optic in later.

JP is making one that looks great but are only selling complete guns at this time. Supposedly there is a chance the peoe who were partnered with the DDLES bad guy might start making them but I won't hold my breath.

So yes Lone Wolf is the only one I am aware of at the moment

Looks slick OP, and thanks, I'm always happy to find an excuse to post a picture of my 9mm AR! I've got a Primary Arms Micro Dot in an ADM mount on mine and have no real complaints. It's bright, clear, holds zero and the price and company can't be beat. I'm also sure it's rugged enough for anything I'm likely to put the 9mm through. The only issue I have stems from the fact that I also have a T1 and am therefore spoiled by the fact that I never have to wonder if I left it on or not when I put the gun it's on away. The price delta between it and the T1 will buy a lot of batteries though. My 9mm has always been a reliable and fun gun to shoot but is even better now that it is suppressed (my Guardian 9 seems plenty quiet) and with the captured recoil spring/buffer that a buddy and I built for it. I kept the 16" upper and am thinking about taking a stab at cutting it down building into a DI gun.

Back before stamps...

DDLES glock lower. The company behind them screwed over a bunch of people, got sued and then disappeared. Rumor is someone else is starting another company to start making these lowers again.

I was explaining who Lone Wolf was to the other poster.

Lots of people have started with a stripped lower and made a pistol first. I keep two pistol-configured lowers around for just that reason.

I haven't seen LW make Glock mag lowers to sell individually. Is that what you're asking? Or just a normal stripped lower?

Any lower can be used. You won't find one sold as a pistol...stripped lowers are all sold as "other".

Buy the one you like, build it into an AR pistol. You can go Pistol->SBR->Pistol, but you can't go SBR->Pistol.
