Right on.  I finally got all 4 SBR stamps, what a ride.  10 months for the paper ones.  I am completing my final SBR assembly this weekend and will be able to post it in this thread as well.

Pic thread!!  12.5s rule!!

BCM 12.5" complete carbine-length upper with FSB.

Muzzle device is a flash hider mount for a Surefire reflex-type suppressor. Handguard is a DD RIS II Mk18 FSB in DE color. White light is a Surefire Fury EAG edition in a Gear Sector mount.

If I could only keep one rifle, this would be it.

I really like this set up.
I wonder how it would work as a Kino set up.

Nice boom stick!

Nothing fancy here, this was my parts bin and EE build. I like the way it turned out though.

Seekins forged lower/upper
Spikes BCG
BCM light weight midlength cut to 12.5" w/BCM comp
ALG ACT trigger with reduced springs
Spikes T2 buffer
Centurion midlength FSB rail
EOTech 517
Surefire M952V
assorted Magpul furniture

Receivers and BCG were the only things I bought new. The small parts were from the bin and the rest was off of the EE.

I've taken to the range a couple times and run it pretty hard for 500 or so rounds. She runs like a sewing machine!
Now just waiting on my Mini4 that will live on it to get out of jail.

Hey guys so is it better to go with a carbine length or Midlength gas system on a 12.5". I'll be running it both suppressed and unsuppressed and am wondering if one is better than the other without having to run an adjustable gas block.

Thanks

I've always heard, and been told, that carbine is better under 14.5". I had this barrel sitting around for a while and just wanted to try something different. So far I'm very pleased with it!

Maybe somebody more knowledgeable will chime in as well.

The 12.5 mid will need a slightly larger gas port.

Mine is a midlength, but it's a 6.8 that is built to run hot ammo.

I wouldn't have a problem running a 5.56 12.5" midlength, but I would test it to make sure it works right before I relied on it. (I would recommend doing that with any firearm you want to use for self defense)  I've got a 10" carbine length 5.56 that runs wolf to M193 suppressed and unsuppressed without failure.  My 16" dissipators (rifle gas on a 16" barrel) don't like wolf/tulammo.  They cycle everything else fine.  I'm going to open the gas port on one pretty soon and see if it will cycle tulammo.

Thanks guys, I think I'll go with the carbine length gas system, I think that'd be best. I'd be running mostly 64 grain Gold Dot and some 62 grain soft point both suppressed and unsuppressed. Problem now is finding a barrel in the Kino configuration. I want the barrel drilled out for the taper pins for the carbine length gas system but then another set of taper pin holes to hold the front site block at the mid length position. Is this how BCM does it, with two sets of taper pins, one holding the gas block and one for the "dummy" front site block? Anybody happen to know. BCM doesn't sell the barrels so far as I know.

Pinned front sights and gas blocks are drilled at the same time the barrel is.  You could have a shop like ADCO pin them both on whatever barrel you choose.  Most barrels will be .730 in front of the gas block, so unless you have one specially profiled it will probably have a slight gap where the front sight goes around the barrel.

My preference is to drop the weight of the front sight and just use a low profile gas block, light weight rail system and a flip BUIS front sight mounted to the end of the rail.  With the right rail this will weigh less than plastic hand guards and give the maximum rail space and allow the support hand to be placed further down the barrel.

This is a 12.5" in 5.45.  I had a Spike's mid length 16" laying around and had it cut down. Runs like a scalded ape.

I had to drill mine. runs great with a can, but can't get enough back pressure to cycle well enough to bet my life on it.

I'm hoping to have a LWRC M6SL re-barrel with a FN middy barrel, I think it will look good once its done.
