Hi I just hought I'd ask the minds here, since the ATF haven't replied to my email yet, if I do build my Draco into an SBR, do I have to do the 922 compliance parts? I want to, but the extra expence is annoying!!! Just putting it out there

It depends...on which ATF letter you read/accept.

Since you asked the ATF, you should comply with the answer they give you.

Prior to 2009, the answer was "no". In 2009 the ATF answered a question similar to yours and his answer was "yes".
SECDEF Leon E. Panetta said Wednesday [02 FEB 12] that American forces would step back from a combat role there [Afghanistan] as early as mid-2013.

I would. At least over time I would..
Will you go to jail if caught with a LEGALLY REGISTERED sbr that isnt 922(r) compliant? No
Will the ATF charge you with violating 922(r) if you get charged with something else? Yes

that was kinda my unasked question too. Do I have to have it 922 right away, or could I have a few things and then add the others in a month or so. I know I know, it should all be done right away, but...... actually I guess if it takes 6 months to get my letter back, I shouldn't have any problems getting 922 parts by then!!LOL!!!

You're going to want to replace the trigger if it doesn't have a tapco one already. You're going to want to replace the barrel nut...put a US one. Put a US stock on it. Buy a couple US mags (3 parts). Why not make it compliant?

Cause it's annoying. $120 isn't worth not hassling with the ATF.

Thats it exactly!!! If I dont gotta spend the extra, WHY BOTHER!!! My trigger is pretty nice, my mags run flawlessly, the underfolderstock I have is Romanian!! I have no real reason to want US compliant parts, except of course to help the economy!!

Becasue of this I did it with mine. I have much more than $120 in firearms and it is worth it to me to be able to keep my collection (not to mention staying out of trouble). YMMV.
1. Muzzle device
2-3-4. FCG (hammer, trigger, disconnect
5. Pistol grip
6. Gas piston

i always thought that 922r was for "sporting rifles" so since this is an SBR it doesn't fall into such and will not require compliance. correct?
I did love my job, working hard is what K9s do…. I was born for it, I lived for it, and died for it; for my country….but mostly for you.

Absolutely, positively, correct. Until 2009 when a response back to letter sent to the BATFE stating the contrary. In addition there was a poster here that stated that with his stamp he had a note from the BATFE reminding him that he needed to make his SBR Draco 922r compliant before completing his build. My Draco stamp, May 11,2011 by Sara B. Jones, did not contain such a note so is this an interpretation from a single inspector or the BATFE as a whole?
