Almost complete. I just need an EOTech 558 and IR laser. I based this build off of the Troy PDW M7A1. Chambered in 300AAC instead of 5.56 because of the 7.5in barrel. I used a Samson 7-6 instead of a Troy Alpha because I scored a good deal on a used one.

It's a 6" Whistle Pig Charger barrel.

http://www.wpgbc.com/6-LR-WF-TH-w-Cap-Black-Matte-Charger-p/6t-bm.htm

Whistle pig makes sleeved aluminum barrels, similar to Tactical Solutions.  I asked the company if they would make it, and he produced a run of barrels.  I have about 100 rounds through it so far. It has run flawlessly out of the box. The 6" length even cycles subsonics.

The barrel also weighs nothing. The complete rifle weighs 3 lb. 3 oz, without a magazine but including the red dot.

I have one of those 300 marked AAC lowers myself that I just sent the form 1 on...  It is still in the planning stages.  I couldn't tell, does yours have the serial that begins with PDW as well??

Pretty decent but:
Didn't have another .30 to compare with
I have shitty hearing
Public range on a busy Sunday so everyone else was firing
He broke a PSA mag catch on mag #2. He brought 500 rounds so that was kinda infuriating

Between sighting in the Leupold and adjusting the SLR gas block, it wasn't a fluid experience

once he gets it dialed in it should be a nice shooter
my sdn-6 does a nice job on my 12.5" but i'd really like a shorter can like the S
public range  i've been spoiled the last couple of years shooting on a friends outdoor range , i have another buddy who spent the summer setting up a range on some property he has relatively close by.  it's good to have friend's with property that's set up to shoot on
Napalmsticks --- nice shorties , i really need to pick up a geissele rail

I'm not sure yet.  Many pros like the price light weight and use of the standard bolt carrier but also the butt pad is pretty small.  I haven't used it yet so time will tell.

Seems kinda counterproductive for consistency or quick followups...

Those two things right there..... They're unnecessarily awesome.

How much gun envy do you trigger when you go to the range and drop those mics? lol

I don't go to the 100yd public range 2 minutes from work unless I need to sight something in, most of my shooting is matches or on private property.
The .45 has gotten some triple-takes at matches, shot a few with it, I let anyone shoot it that wants to.  I get a lot of "how much to build me one?"
Should be even more fun once my form 1 for the can comes back.
The FMG isn't quite done yet, still have a few pieces to machine before testing it out.

Little testing when I first finished it up.  Silver Bear .45 is smokey
