The K98 stock was sold “for parts” and was a complete pile, so I sanded it down, filled several holes (to include the takedown hole) and inletted it for the Timney 3# trigger and larger barrel before refinishing it with Danish Oil. The cheek riser is for a tube-gun chassis (required to use the red-dot), and the scope base probably cost more than anything else on the gun. I blame zombie movies for what you see here. The action is very well worn but is very smooth (read sloppy). At 25 yards with the red dot the bullets are almost all in the same hole. Before I put the Timney in you’d be lucky to hit the paper. I measured the stock trigger and it was around 10# and almost needed two fingers to pull. It looks like a gun that you should have just melted down (and to most probably still does), but well-used guns are usually my favorites. I’m still trying to figure out someone who makes Mauser bottom metal that I can adapt to accept Stanag mags. |
