THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
I just got off a phone with a friend of mine. He called claiming that he has found a way around the 6 month wait. When I asked him how, he said to do a trust. I know a little about trusts although I have never used one.

So my friend said that his trust was just completed a few weeks ago. A class III dealer in East Texas sold him a suppressor. My friend stated they did the forms and he paid the $200 fee via a .gov website. He was then called a few days ago saying that his forms are in and he is welcome to come pick up his suppressor now.

I told him this sounded fishy because even trusts have to go through the same process (except for CLEO and photos) as the rest of us. So, according to my friend, all within a month, he set up a trust, sent in application, paid fee by .gov website and was approved. I told him thats impossible and that if he does drive to the class III dealer to pick up suppressor and he doesnt have a stamp, that he should NOT leave with the suppressor.

Now, am I wrong or is something happening here that is either illegal or just a huge isunderstanding between my friend and his dealer?

I believe he's mistaken, and it may be that the suppressor has just now arrived at his DEALER's from the manufacturer on a Form 3 transfer, which takes much less time than the eventual Form 4 to him and his trust.

The trust route is a well-known method of avoiding CLEO signoff and prints and pics, but usually takes just as long as any other Form 4 - about six months or so, lately.

There has been talk of a web app, but as a SOT dealer, I've not been informed by the ATF that it's up and usable, so if there is such a thing, it's news to me and all the other SOTs here..

yes i would like to know more about this. the ATF is starting to test a beta version of an online form but this would be the first i've herd of it actually being used. i'm thinking that there is some type of misunderstanding here between your friend and the NFA dealer.

I havent heard back from him, but I was adamant in telling him that he was wrong and that he needed to clarify with his class III dealer. That being said, he was pretty insistent that his dealer said he can come pick up his suppressor.

I don't know the name of the dealer, but I think my friend said it was in McAllen, TX.

ETA: He said he used a .gov website to make his $200 payment.

ok now i am really interested, please get us more info on that part, the Dealer's info, website, or anything that one can follow up on. if this is going where i hope it is i may hold off a little longer on sending out some Form 1s and a 4.

I wouldn't. if it sounds too good to be true it usually is. file your forms and start the wait.

Hahah ok well ya, I'm not reall waiting for that. Just haven't had te motivation to send out the forms.
Also pissed off at the dealer who has my can on a form 3 since early may, said he was really busy and couldn't do the form 4 last time I was there. I don't even really care about I anymore.
He also didn't call me when the can came on or the form 4 on my MG wich all happened the first week of may.

Same here. They are planning an e-form, but AFAIK it is not rolled out. Be interesting to see if it has been to select dealers. I doubt it though.

The only C3 dealer in south Texas, not any where near east Texas is RDS out of Mcallen/Edinburg on 10th street. So if he confused East Texas with DEEP South Texas (A few miles from Mexico) i think he might have confused the rest of the story as well. Hope its a mix up in the he said she said, and we can get our form 1's and 4's back in 1-2 mths with a new system. Guess we will wait for the outcome. If details are not posted by Monday afternoon, I'll call the owner and ask the turn around time for a form 4 is ,as he does not do form1's.
