THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT 1. first off is it still a gray area to shorten the barrel to <18" but keep the oal >26" and it is still considered just a firearms and not under NFA guidelines as long as not concealed? I am in South Carolina so I dont know if that would be legal here anyway. 2. IF i wanted to just register one as AOW, how would i go about it? Which form to use? It would be on a trust. 3. IF i made it, It would still be $200 on a form1? to buy one already made would just be $5 on a form4? If this is the case, what is the total cost of getting on AOW made by an sot? If it is close to the $200 price I would just rather make a SBS and spend the whole $200. Thanks |

If you do the Form 2 it is $200, if a 07 does it it's $5. FWIW you can sent it to Serbu and for $350 they will convert it to a Super Shorty and probably register it as well. In the long run think of the conversion as only costing $155 since you saved the $200 making tax.

If you want to Form 1 an AOW it costs $200 to make, but then $5 to transfer if you ever sell it. I would rather Form 1 an SBS since you can add a stock if you want and it costs the same anyways. With an AOW you can't add a stock. Or just buy an already made AOW on a Form 4 and pay only $5 for the transfer tax to the ATF.

anybody know if the "14" front end with birds head grip 26.25" oal" configuration is legal in south carolina as it is pictured on the shockwavetechnologies.com webpage? we have good guns laws here buti cant tell if sc laws would still classify this as a shotgun rather than just a shotgun-like firearms as the nfa sees it.
here is the definitions from sc. i am not good at deciphering legal jargon so i can't tell if the pistol grip only mossberg classifies as a shotgun or not. SECTION 16-23-210. Definitions. When used in this article: (b) “Sawed off shotgun” means a shotgun having a barrel or barrels of less than eighteen inches in length or a weapon made from a shotgun which as modified has an overall length of less than twenty six inches or a barrel or barrels of less than eighteen inches in length. (c) “Shotgun” means a weapon designed or redesigned, made or remade, and intended to be fired from the shoulder and designed or redesigned and made or remade to use the energy of the explosive in a fixed shotgun shell to fire through a smooth bore either a number of ball shot or a single projectile for each pull of the trigger. The term includes any such weapon which may be readily restored to fire a fixed shotgun shell but does not include an antique firearm as defined in this section. |

I think you're going to find a AOW very unpleasant to shoot a whole lot and pretty useless unless you're defending the back seat of a car from an attack from the front seat.
I had my "Super Shorty" repapered into a SBS just so I could add a stock. It still isn't a very practical firearm, but at least I can hit something with it now. ![]() |

if you are going super short, AOW is fine. An 8" barrel with a stock is not my cup of tea. But anything longer, I think you will eventually get the urge to try it out with a stock.

I think a sbs is much more useful than an aow and the cost is the same. I wouldnt own a shotty with a barrel less than 12". I have a 870 sbs with a 14" barrel thats just about the right length for a 12ga.

Come and go as your please an no need for paperwork for local LEOs. ETA the cost is not the same. a SBS transfers for 200 and a AOW transfers for 5. |

By your post, do you mean that you may want to part with it for the right price?? |
