I'm submitting my Form 1 today. Here is what just did about an hour ago:

Duplicate copies of Form 1 printed front and back. Make sure you have it printed on the front and back sides of the paper.
Duplicate copies of my Trust including the Declaration, Certification, Schedule A, and Assignment of Property.
Duplicate copies of the Certificate of Compliance. You need this as it seems the ATF is beginning to require this form.
Check made out to the DOJ for $200

That is it. I'll be going by post office today and then maybe I can start playing with it by Thanksgiving... :)

I don't think you need duplicate copies of anything besides the Form 1 (because they keep one, and send you the other back with a stamp). I send the Form 1/4 in duplicate, then one copy of my Declaration of Trust, one copy of my Schedule A, one Certificate of Compliance form, and a $200 check to DOJ.

this is not the right attitude to have at all...

these errors fuck up the process for everyone and are completely avoidable...

Honestly go clime a tree or something. It was an accident! I'm sure you have made a mistake before. Nothing I can do about it already in the mail system. Not the end of the world. Pull that stick out of your ass. Have a good rest of the day!

it wasn't an accident. an accident is something that can't be avoided.

this was negligence on your part. you failed to pay attention and read the tacked threads or ask here before sending off your forms.

I have 7 tax stamps, and not a SINGLE mistake in any of the submissions because I triple checked everything before putting it in the mail.

It may not be the end of the world, but people like you are the cause for most of the delays at the NFA branch.

The good news is, what will happen is when yours comes to the top of the pile, if the tag is attached, the examiner will pull it, fill out a form letter explaining what you need to do, stuff it in an envelope with the Form 1's and mail them to you. When you get it, you do as instructed to correct the Form 1's, you mail them back. As soon as she gets the corrected forms, and assuming you corrected them to ATF's satisfaction, they should get approved within two or three days of her receiving the corrected Form 1's. So all it has done is slow your approval by the mailing time to and from you, plus two or three days.

The bad news is, the extra time it took the examiner to do all this took up about the 15-20 minutes that it would take to approve another three or four forms. So your typo just pushed everyone else in line back by three or four spots.

I hate to sound like a grump, but something like 40% of the forms arriving at NFA Branch have errors that need correcting ... and fixing a bad application takes three or four times the time it takes to approve correctly submitted forms.

Please, don't complain about the time it takes nowadays to get forms approved, if you can't at least triple-check your application before you drop it in the mail. The Obama Administration is not gonna give us enough examiners to handle the workload ... so it's up to us to make sure everything is submitted correctly, and minimize the delay.

Rant off.

I really dont feel like getting in an argument because I have better stuff to do than argue with people on the internet. If you want to call it negligence go head. What ever makes you happy. I dont see it as negligence, I see it as an "o shit" moment , but that is my opinion. Next time I'll be a little more careful. Life goes on.

I'm not trying to argue with you, just explain to you and others reading it, that your "oh shit" moment, whether you consider it an "accident" or "negligent", has a direct impact on the already excessive wait times for approved Form 1s and 4s.

did you read what I quoted above? 40% that's TWO out of every FIVE forms are submitted with errors or omissions that are 100% avoidable.

wait times used to average 90 days door to door, we're now seeing 6-7 MONTHS.

no battle hawk, what he is saying is your mistakes are the ONLY possible reason its taking 6 months. it has nothing to do with higher numbers of forms being submitted, just that you and only you are the only person holding everyone else up. so in light of that i guess i see where hellbhound is coming from.

heck its even worse than what hellbound was saying. he said its only 2 out of 5. its not, its worse, its more like 4 out of ten!!!!! now when i submitt my first from in another month or so, i have to wait longer too

I wonder if it gets approved quicker if I drive to Martinsburg and hand delivered my forms to my examiner?. It's only 2 hours away.

if you could do that, just picture how many people would!!! you would have people camping out taking their week of vacation just to get their new stamp. it would be like an occupy protest on clean, neat, orderley and full of people with an iq bigger than their shoe size and fun to be around.

heck we could make it an event and call it stamp-a palooza!

So the I'm hearing include Certificate of Compliance now, even though that's not "required" with a trust because it's about a person and a person isnt buying the item, the trust is.
Is that what I'm reading?

Send it "just in case". If it's not needed, they just throw it in the trash. Even if a trust is not a person, the trustee buying or making the firearm is a person.

I had two Certificates of Compliance filled out and the guy at the class three dealer threw them out and said they were not needed, just saying. We'll see in a few months if it was correct.

I am about to send one in at the end of this week, I have a question. Are we suppose to send the last 2 pages of the Form 1? The Definition part or just the FRONT AND BACK of the first 2 pages? Same with the http://www.atf.gov/forms/download/atf-f-5330-20.pdf Are we suppose to send the last page or just the main one?
