Will the Ruger .308 Scout rifle 10 round PLASTIC mags work with the Savage FCP-SR?
Someone on another board said the steel Ruger mags would work, but did not mention the plastic versions.

Well, since the Savage mag is supposed to be an AICS copy and the Ruger Gunsite Scout rifle mags are supposed to be an AICS copy, I have ordered some of the Ruger polymer mags to see if they will fit the Savage. The polymer mags are similar to the Alpha mags, in that they are both double stack, single feed. The factory mags are single stack, single feed. That makes the Ruger polymer and Alpha mags shorter and lighter. It might also reduce the mag rattle that some complain about on the FCP-SR. I ordered the rifle yesterday.

The Ruger poly mags will not work in a standard AICS platform. Due to the angle and thickness of the feed lips, the magazine sits too low in the well, causing the bolt to over ride the case. Modifications can be made by inletting the bottom metal approx .125" higher, but that causes issues with standard metal mags.

Even if they did work, they suck. They limit the OAL severely due to the thickness of the polymer.

Well, the Ruger GSR metal mag and the Savage FCP-SR metal mag both appear to be AICS copies from the same company, Accurate Mag.
I understand that the initial production of the Ruger polymer mag (10 round only) did sit too low. I understand that is now fixed.
Regarding max COAL, yes, the polymer mag is limited, but to the same dimensions (2.850") as the Alpha Type I. The Alpha Type 2 allows up to 2.985" for the handloader.

Anyway, I will try them. I will also see if an Alpha Type 2 will work.

I understand, as I use the Ruger (Accurate) mags now. I have two polymer mags sitting here, both new production, and neither one sits high enough.
