THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
From a local board today, I picked up a Remington 700 ADL Varmint in .308.

It has a 26 inch heavy barrel, xmark trigger, and came with a remington branded 4-12x40 scope, and crappy mossy oak injection molded stock.

The only disadvantage is that it's a blind mag, and lousy stock. I figure I'll play with it as is for now, and after I finish building out my Tikka it will be my next project, starting with the stock and some bottom metal.

The rifle was apparently a Dick's sporting goods exclusive package deal. The seller put 20 rounds through it, and it is in perfect, like new condition.

Here is a pic. It is not mine, but it is the identical rifle, sans bipod:

I got it for $350 OTD, plus about 8 bucks in gas. So how did I do?

You saved about $100 off of new, and you still ended up with a Remington 700 receiver $250 less than Brownells wants for it.

The scope is crap. So are the rings. The bases are most likely Leupold, but not a good option for a tactical rifle.

Basically you will be junking everything but the barreled action and trigger. Get your choice of chassis system and you will be golden.

That's kind of what I figured.

i have enough beater .22s around that wouldn't mind having a cheap scope on them.

I actually just yanked it out of the stock and adjusted the trigger from the 100 lbs the factory had it set at down to about 3, and it's actually not too bad.

I probably won't be doing any upgrades for quite some time, except for maybe throwing a 4-12 Leupold rifleman that i have on it, and just using it as a beater/camping rifle for now.

I expect I should be able to shoot minute of groundhog out to 2-300 yards as it sits, so it should serve well enough untill I upgrade it down the road.

I have the same rifle. It was a good shooter in stock form, but I have made some changes.

McMillan A5
Vortex PST 6-24x50 FFP
Timney straight trigger
20 MOA base
KRG Bolt Lift (after reading Lonewolf's review)
Barrel cut down to 21"
AAC 762-SD

Stock will be going back to McMillan for inletting for CDI bottom metal and a front Pic Rail.

On a side note, I just started handloading. It seems to really like 168 AMAX over Varget. CFE 223 on the other hand, not so much.

I got the same rifle at Dick's during the Black Friday sale. After all the rebates and gift cards (long story), the otd price was $289.

Was just in Dicks this weekend and the non sale price was $549 +tax. Next black Friday day sale I want to get one in .223 or a cheap shooter.
