I just purchased an AE Mark I for just under $3K. The AW is the extreme all weather, indestructible version preferred mainly by those trekking through the desert, snow, etc. The AE does not have the extreme all weather capability as the AW. It is the version used by law enforcement organizations. Both are very accurate out of the box.

In 2010, you can get all the same accessories you can on the AE that you can get on the AW, including the Covert. You will be pleased either way.

Look on Snipers Hide Forum Gun Classifieds for great deals on AI rifles.

Here is the Accuracy International. Accuracy International North America is located in Fredericksburg, VA

It's funny how many guys at the range comment on how a relatively short barrel cannot be accurate , that it has terrible ballistics and that I'm and idot to buy such a short barreled rifle. They can keep their 26" barrel Remington 700P . This is a 20" AI AEMKII

The Covert is 16" as I recall. They had one on display at SHOT Show.

www.accuracyinternationalsrt.com still has an AE MkI available I think.

Its not as short as some barrels on here but 24" is short for a 300RUM ,with the loads i have worked up so far I am getting 3350fps with 168gn berger VLD's with 94.5 gns of RL22 ,and have no high pressure signs so I am going to keep working it up

I know. 18 and 20in barrels arn't accurate at all. My 20in ai ae will only put down 1/4 to 1/3 in groups at 200 if I do all of my part. Does not happen all the time, (damn), but it happens enough to know the gun will flat out shoot. 1/2 to 1/3 in is the norm at 200. Sometimes 3/4 when wind is blowing or I screw it up. Tons of incredibly accurate short barreled rifles running around out there. Those are 5 shot groups. Scary accurate at 100. Sometimes you can barely see that there is more than 1 hole in the target.

I wish I knew this would have caught on. I had a Remington 700 .308 HB cut down in 1996 to 16 inches, and everyone thought I was nuts. Basic idea was a rifle that I could have used on duty in an urban setting. It fit my needs, but I took so much crap over it, I ended up selling it, wish I still had it though.

Currently an 18" barrel. Soon as I'm 21 I'm going to have it cut down to 16.5 and get it threaded 1/2x28tpi for a can.

Why would you need to be 21? My 10/22 barrel is 16", and is threaded.

ETA: Mine (not worthy of this thread)

You were just ahead of your time..

I had my PSS cut down to 20" (wasn't brave enough to go shorter) and now lots of people are doing it, and more...

Don't really know why a police sniper would ned a barrel longer than maybe 18 inches. That and an OPS 3rd would be ideal.

Might do that with my AW...
