I am trying to have some picatinny rail sections built for a Midwest industries handguard made.  Does anyone have any experience/suggestions with this?  Would a small Machine shop take this on for me?

Which handguard? There is probably something available off the shelf or requiring only minor modification.

It is for a Midwest Industries 308 handguard, so the hole spacing has to match that.  I have scoured the internet for anything with no joy.

Handguard

The picatinny rail blanks I can find are not true MIL-1913 spec or are just extrustions.  I thought about going the extrusion route, but by the time you mill the T-slots it's not much more effort to mill the entire thing.

MI sells them in 2.5" and 4.5" lengths right on their site.
Do you need something longer?

Gotcha, what are you planning to do with it?

I have no intentions of mounting stuff to them, just going for looks.  That said, I don't want to use polymer.

In that case, I would probably just buy a different rail.  It will likely be cheaper and will definitely be less of a headache...

Did you look at EGW? They make rail sections up to 32" long.
http://www.egwguns.com/extrusion/drops/

If you call them, they'll sometimes make you exactly what you want.

Thanks for the advice, this is exactly what I was looking for.
I made up some CAD drawings and sent them to EGWGuns.  They said they'd take a look and see if they could manufacture them.
