I bought a bubbed M38 carbine for next to nothing. Barrel and stock are cut down and while I was looking at it I had an idea to turn it into a Mosin copy of a Spanish FR 8 type rifle by putting a unserviceable M1 Garand gas cylinder on it for the front sight. Before I break out the dremel I thought I'd ask if anyone could either turn down the barrel or open the cylinder to get it on the barrel. I'm trying to do this as cheaply as possible because it's just a fun project and might be useful practice for someone.

When in doubt, modify the cheapest part.

I used an Enfield "Jungle Carbine" flash hider with integral front sight..

I made the front sight post and base from brass bar stock and rod.
All I need now is a bayo for it.
