This modification adds 1/4" to the cross feed slide travel, and adds a semi-powered feed option.
required tools: 7mm socket
grinding tool (dremel, proper grinder, or mill)
hex key set
#2 phillips screwdriver
1/4" x 1" bolt

Loosen the lock nuts

Remove the screws

Remove the cross feed screws. Then remove the swarf panel (black sheet metal) from the back of the lathe.

Slide the cross feed off.

Remove the measurement wheel. It slides off. Catch the little flat metal spring.
Remove the nugget with a hex key.

Grind 0.25" +0/-.05 off of the inside of the nugget. Grind slightly lower than the existing base.

Drill a hole through the crank and feed bar.

Force screw a 1/4" bolt into the existing hole. Put a set screw or pin into the previously drilled hole.

Use this black and decker screwdriver ($20) for a nice, slow feed that gives very smooth facing.

I made this device to fit over the handle of my 9A compound feed; it will assist in cutting long tapers.

The bore is .700" by .500" deep. The slots were cut with an undersized 3/8" end mill and are the same depth. The reduced shank is 1/2".

Now I can chuck this in the cordless drill and feed smoothly with minimal effort. Also, the drill clutch can be used to prevent machine damage.
