For shotguns yes, on rifles there is a limit to how much of a bend can be straightened due to the thicker barrel metal not recovering as well as thinner shotgun barrels.
To check you'd just need a good straight edge and verniers. |

Stretch a silk thread tautly down the bore. It will tell you where the bend is then use an arbor press to straighten it. When straight a 30 caliber gage pin will drop freely through the bore. You can use ( IIRC the size) a length of 19/64" drill rod as well.
Heck, it's a FAL, a bent barrel may benefit it

Watch the Barrel, there was a better one on Midways " Gun Stories", but I couldn't find a clip. Those skinny barrels MOVE!

Yes, gunsmiths do straighten barrels, but with the cost of a new barrel being reasonable, it might not even be the best way to fix the gun. If the barrel is on a,,,FAMAS or other hard to get/rare gun, than yes you would want to straighten the original bbl. ,as for an FAL, tons of them out there, and many have had barrels replaced at armories.

Being that the barrel is on a FAL, might want to first remove the barrel and check the imbed of the barrel shoulder to the receiver and even the head space as well.
Most FAL stated off as a surplus kit, and home builders would half as setting the barrel shoulder back to index is correctly with the receiver to begin with; ending up with the barrel shoulder not set flush to the receiver face, and this gap in contact areas will cause all kinds of flyers as the barrel starts to heat up and expand to cause it to change is POA/POI the hotter the the barrel gets. So with the barrel off, you can check the embed of the barrel shoulder to the receiver to being with to make sure it has a solid contact to the face of the receiver, and the chuck the barrel up in a lathe between centers to see if it bent or not instead. Also, would be a good time to check the barrel bore for any frosting, and even reduce the crown if needed as well. Also, what FS do you have on the barrel. The reason that I ask is the STG-58 FS really help with barrel harmonic on that barrel, and if you change it out to say a lighter FS, can end up with a lot of different barrel harmonics on the barrel. |
