Heat,
You need to get the action bar hot enough so the metal is malleable to bring it back to shape. Note, you a small flame and only heat the bar in the area that you need to straighten it. Once you have it to shaped correctly, reheat the area you are working to a dull glow quickly (not the entire bar), then oil quench to reheat treat the area that you just annealed by heating up to begin with. With luck, the area you need to rework is down line, and not at the braze areas instead. |

vise and heat....will smooth metal jaws
heat it then place the bent part into the vise quickly and smoothly close the vise and let it cool remove form vice and spot hardened the area you heated... |

Thanks guys. I need to make some smooth jaws for my vise. Is aluminum the right material to use?
How hot do I get the metal before bending? I have a propane torch for plumbing (sweating copper). Will this work? |
