If so, could you shed some light on how, what tools you use, and show off with pictures?

Most my classmates used:

#49 Nicholson wood rasp
Straight chisels (my biggest is about 1/2" and smallest 1/8")
Inletting chisel (these are the dog leg ones.  We had to make them as part of my bench metal class).
gouges of various sizes
Jerry Fishers' scrapers (both round and flat)
Barrel inletting tool (Demart?), about .600" diameter

Most of them didn't have a fishtail (I did).
