I have a Chilean Modelo 1912-61 Mauser that was chambered in .308, and it it's point of impact is about 1-1/2feet higher than what the sights are set for.  It appears that the front sight sits too low.

Does anyone know if a replacement front sight like Brownells sells with will be tall enough to bring the point of impact down so I can properly sight it in?

The problem is I can't move the rear sight ramp any lower to achieve a usable sight position.  A  tall replacement front sight post that I can cut down appears to be the only solution.

Brownell's do offer a Mauser front sight.
Listed as fitting the 1891 through 1898 rifles.

Most of these old surplus rifles were set up for a 300 meter zero. Short of that you're going to shoot high. As you've already figured out, the solution is to install a taller front sight. Another approach is to get a set of Mojo sights -- especially, the front/rear snapshot set.
