1988 made in Belgium assembled in Portugal MkIII with a Firedragon replacement barrel (original is cracked). I gave $400. I intend to build it into a carry piece. Heinie sights, wide, straightened trigger, looped hammer, sear, Wolff springs, Bar Sto or similar barrel, I'm thinking Ion Bond with VZ slim micarta grips. I'm contemplating building up a beaver tail by TIG. Undecided between stippling and milling a grip profile/texture. |

Not sure, I think they are Pachymeyers but only because the magazine floorplate is.

Fantastic! If I can duplicate that stippling pattern I will. Yours did not have a serial number on the front strap?

May I also suggest a deactivation of the mag safety, and a cut of the slide and barrel to 4.25" (something I've long thought about)... |

No mag safety. Whether it was removed, or never existed, I haven't looked yet. I read there were a few MkIIIs that did not have one, but I'm guessing it was already removed.

I did one as well using a Charles Daly frame and slide with Browning internals, straight trigger, Bar-Sto barrel, and VZ grips. Still need to add a beavertail (may not though) and do a complete refinish:

Is there room to undercut the trigger guard where it meets the front strap like on 1911s? |

If you're a little too much below or above you're going to make that area super thin or even break through it. That's why typically for a BHP you stipple instead of checker, and if you do checker you have to go with a very small and shallow LPI. There are a few spots where a little dent was raised inside the frame from the stippling, but they haven't affected performance of any kind. It's been a really fun project and I did all the work myself; unfortunately my wife has called dibs on it since she's a deadeye with it. |

Does anyone know what material the forged frames are? If I'm going to weld up a beaver tail or repair a front strap mistake, I'm curious to know if it's 4140 or similar.
