THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT 1 a Wally world 30 mm Tasco and a TRUGLO 30 mm. Both worked for a few hundred rounds then started shutting off every time I fired. They reset when I turn them off then on but still shutoff after every shot. And yes I replaced the batteries. Is there something about the Hi Point that is screwing up red dots or do I need to buy an even more expensive red.dot to take the horrible recoil of a 9mm carbine

Just a guess, but it might be that heavy breach-block coming back forward that's giving them fits. If you want to go cheap, you might try an airgun scope - airguns are tough on scopes for the same reason - they have a weird recoil movement. Otherwise, try a low power non-variable scope.

I had a TruGlo 30MM scope on an AK in 7.62x39mm. I found that the battery cover was becoming loose due to recoil, reducing the power of the red dot and eventually turning it off. I found a drop of blue loctite and 24 hours before a range trip in the battery compartment would fix the problem. I had 1,000 rounds on the gun before I sold it.
Good luck! |

I have six various 9mm blowback rifles and most...not all...are hard on red-dots. That big heavy bolt banging around in there just wears out those cheap Chinese red dots. The battery cover was one victim. The rifle actually wore the threads out banging it so much. Then the screws on the inside would work loose. Still, I do manage to get a few years out of the scopes. Try the lock-tite trick and see how it goes. I will say this, even when the scopes failed I was able to go in and tighten up the screws and save them. Of course, after this I moved them down to my 10/22's and get a new scope for the 9. |

Sorry to hear that your 995 is eating red dots.
I bought a 995 12-odd years ago and spent about $80 on a Tasco red dot and haven't looked back. I would guess that I have put at least 7500 rounds through the rifle and haven't had any issues with the red dot. I was able to hit paper at 100 yards from a bench with it. The recoil impulse on the 995 is rather snappy, maybe try a red dot of slightly higher quality? |
