Went shooting with a friend this weekend he was shooting a 30 30 marked ted Williams sears made by winchester. I was picking up his brass and everyone of them the primer was backed out about halfway . They did not look deformed just backed out. Any ideas what may be happening? Factory rounds.

Common issue with this rifle, long headspace, and factory ammo set to minimum sizing (or even less).

ETA:  the sizing comes into play where the 30-30 is a low pressure round, so the case does not have enough pressure to slip back against the breech face.  This can be normal in a low pressure rim-headspaced round.

Some people when reloading 30-30 WIN choose to back off the sizing die and not resize the case as much, until the ammo just chambers easily, and it resolves this.

Headspaces on the rim, so as long as the bolt goes all the way forward and the locking lugs are bearing on the receiver slots it is safe, unless you start popping primers, or it has been "Bubba'd."
