Probably because to get the TL rating for each size safe it intends to sell it would have to get said safes tested by UL which is very expensive.
Also, and this is certainly not meant to be a snipe at Knox, but they may not have the true safe building knowledge to build a true TL rated safe.

So, why don't you (Ft. Knox) design your own TL safes?
Probably because to get the TL rating for each size safe it intends to sell it would have to get said safes tested by UL which is very expensive.

Very expensive. Also, our manufacturing model is based on fully customizable vaults built to customer specifications. We have a number of standard models, but endless options as well as true custom "ground-up" applications. The process to run a shop like that, all here in the USA, is in direct contrast to a TL type operation, where you are severely limited as to changes allowed without losing the TL rating.
We have been building safes for 32 years, and have great engineers. I assure you the knowledge of how to build a TL rated safe isn't witchcraft or a mystery to us, simply not as cost effective or one that we have space for at this time.
What we do have space and capacity for is a partnership with INKAS that turns around and delivers a higher quality finish, a gun or custom interior etc. all at one of the most competitive prices on the market.

Well, probably a good move on their part. It gives an "unknown" brand an immediate market recognition in the US and probably keeps Ft Knox from paying the reportedly high UL testing fees, labeling requirements, etc.

Exactly.

Here's the problem as I see it. The vast majority of gun safe dealers are not safe guys. Some are, but most are simply sporting goods stores, gun shops, etc. They simply don't have the ability to deal with these weights, or the service work that may be required. That means they would need to contact a real safe guy to handle it for them, and most of the real safe guys already sell this type of stuff themselves.
Although a market does exist, it's not as big as some may think. This coming from somebody who has offered high end, custom burglary safes since 1990.
Also very insightful. Only a portion of my 150 national dealers are set up and able to handle the weights of the TL safes. It is a small market, as most homes don't have the capacity outside of the garage. And frankly the vast majority of people don't need a TL safe. A standard Fort Knox vault can be built to a security level that will defeat the vast majority of threats and still be something you can install in your home.
