One question tho
Does it stick to the safe carpet good?
View Quote

I did not stick it to safe carpet, so I have no idea.  I stick it to the metal frame of the safe door frame.
View Quote

Hmm, I checked my safe last night and my frame has carpet on it.
I will try to figure sometime out because my parts will be here on Saturday.

Very nice setup, OP.

I did something similar with my gun cabinet.  I used green LED strips and a magnetic switch on the door.  The magnetic switch would work great for a closet door, too.

Did you just round the corners or did you use connectors?  Can't really tell in the pics.

Cool project, looks great.

No. It had a hole.  I got a surge power strip and cut off the plug.  Put the power strip in the safe, threaded the power cord out of the safe (you can see it, it's gray in bottom of safe) and assembled the plug, then plugged it in.   Simple.  No need for a fancy over priced gun safe power outlet.

Did you drill the hole or was it there? I've got no hole and no power to mine, but I wonder about drilling a hole in the back and doing just this. Any thoughts on risk of fire entering via extension cord or otherwise?

It'll kill your fire rating, if you're really worried about that.  Most guys on GD lose guns while sailing the seas of cheese becoming a Harvester of the Seas.  But I digress...

Drill the hole big enough to pass the plug through, and then finish the rough edge of the hole with a rubber grommet.  It's a common enough item that can even be found in the electrical section of your average big box store.  The grommet protects the wire from chafing and the inevitable short if you don't protect it.

Simply peel the tape cover off, and stick to the safe, then plug it in. Done.

It is very secure on the safe metal.  I did not tape to carpet.   It's not some POS tape either, it's 3m double stick tape.

It is easy.  Took me 10 minutes from unpacking the shipping box to having it plugged in and ready to go.

I have an LED strip set up that I bought on Ebay.  Mine is powered by 8 AA batteries.  I velcroed the battery holder to the bottom left inside corner of the safe.  I chose to put a toggle switch just inside the door.  My wife accidentally left the light on and 7 days later the lights were glowing dimly but still glowing.  I replace the batteries and now know that the batteries will last about 150-160 hours.  With the batteries I don't have to worry about cords or outlets to plug the lights into, or power failures.

You live in a country that trusts it's citizens and doesn't treat them like children.

You have a very nice gun safe.

Why isn't it chock full of guns :)

I'd have so many I'd find it hard to close the door :) that is if I didn't live in a country run by lib tards.

Nice work so far but you're not finished.  Buy another strip and do an under shelf / downlighting thing.  It's a pain, but worth the hassle - especially when you have the whole thing full.

It held up amazingly well!  Took some force to take it off the carpet.   Of course when I pulled it off, it took out a bunch of fibers and you won't be able to stick it back on the safe wall again.  Just stick it on the carpet and leave it alone, it should be fine!

You have me wanting to install the lighting in mine as well. The only issue I can see is the motion detector is getting some real shit reviews for reliability on the feedback.

Looking at Amazon, I noticed that you can buy the same length strip LEDs with the power supply and the multi color shit for the same price as you spent for them separately. Is there a reason not to get the multi color kit? Not that I intend to use anything but white. I need to find teh same place selling the LED strip and power supply so I do not have to pay shipping.
