Long time lurker, first time poster here.
I'm based in NH, and have designed and built what could arguably be the coolest gun safe in the world. I wanted to share it here and get some feedback. This post is not a for sale post, so please do not respond in this thread with questions about that - just looking for overall feedback. If responses are high, I will get a dealer membership and post it in the EE section. Thanks :) Matthew Gun safes are ugly. Gun safes advertise the fact that you have guns. All safes can be cracked. In the 18th century, high end furniture often contained secret compartments with the concept of: if they can't find it, they can't steal it. Thus, I have designed and built what is possibly the coolest safe in the world. I welcome your feedback. http://i2.ytimg.com/vi/1pYqquG27pg/mqdefault.jpg Yay! Nightstands are done: |

Holy Crap! I am so jealous! Your craftsmanship is great. I really only thought you were going to pull one compartment out.

|
That is great, very nice work! Now if you can just make a fireproof version!!
|
|
Very impressive! Beats the "hide them in random places" approach.

While the work you did looks great, your post equals advertising.
If you wish to advertise here, you should contact [email protected] for more info. In the mean time please don't post any links/info that could be viewed as advertising. |

Nice looking storage, very well crafted. It's not a safe though. Security through obscurity is not security at all.

I feel I'm missing something - there's just one pic in the OP (a result of VA's editing?)
Are there more pics? I want to appreciate! |

Along similar lines, if you are remodeling a kitchen or bathroom or similar, the normally wasted toekick space under the cabinets can very easily be adapted into secure storage drawers.

Unforthunately, while that link may contain some advertising, it also contains the full demonstration of the design showing all the different compartments and the information that is helpfull should you wish to adapt the design ideas for your own project. Given that many many posts in these forums provide links to commercial products as reference for design ideas, I'm of the opinion that the benefit:advertising ratio for the original post is acceptable. |

If/when the OP can convince the owners of this, then he'll be good to go. Until that time, he must follow the rules that the owners have laid out. |

Now I know where you hide your shit.
But, I may be doing something similar some time soon. Good on ya! |

I didn't mean to offend - If the mods see the need to remove the link to the youtube video, so be it. I am not making an attempt to sell here. Just looking to share something that I made which is pretty cool, and looking to get some feedback. I don't have an inventory of items to sell, I am a custom woodworker, and what I make is custom to order, so I thought that showing something here that I made would be OK. If there is enough interest, I would happily upgrade my membership to be allowed to sell in the EE section.

VA, would it be acceptable if he uploaded the video to youtube without the contact information?

OP did not mean to offend as he says, he wanted to establish or determine if there is a market for his product. |

That is very impressive, not only in design but also the execution of it. I would really love to have one, but I can only imagine that the cost of such a complex build would be prohibitive for me.

Very nice work. I could see myself using something like that to keep a "go-to" rifle/shotgun and handgun out of sight out of mine, but that's it. I'll keep my main safe/vault for the fire and burglary protection.
|
|
Nice set up, would like a small one for one long gun and pistol.
|
|
I like it. I would suggest a "single" model about 36-46" wide, with the hidden panels on either side and the hidden drawers.

I'm working on a few more designs. A nightstand, a shorter 1/2 size bookcase, and an entertainment center.
I needed to work out all of my ideas on a large scale item like this, now I can refine some other ideas into smaller pieces. The entire unit is key lockable, and there are a couple more secrets which are not shown in the video. Thanks for all the kind comments so far. :) Matt |

Let me know when you make a POS painted / laminated Mdf version. That thing would stick out like a sore thumb in my house.
|
|
Lol - ^^ That is funny - It would be the wal-mart camo version. Camouflage with the rest of the furniture :)
|
|
First off - Excellent design and execution. I like it a lot.
Couple of questions: 1. How quickly could you feasibly access your gear? I realize you were being methodical in the video, but if someone was breaking in, how easy would it be? 2. What does it look like from behind? ie, if a thief pulled this "bookshelf" away to check for hidden safes in the wall, would the goods still be hidden? |
