So..This post has two purposes...to show off the Bogota style rakes that I crafted today..and to ask for lock recommendations.

Here's the deal..I made these rakes, and when I tried them out they worked AWESOME! Herein lies the problem...I was able to pick my way through both the deadbolt and the knob locks and gain access to my house in under 1 minute. This was true with every brand of deadbolt that I have in my house.. Seems if I can do it then it wouldn't be hard for someone with..shall we say less than legitimate intents to. So what kind of locks should I be looking at. I don't need the best of the best, but something not easily defeated. As far as the picks go, I crafted one for general purpose, and another for smaller/shorter locks and masterlocks padloacks. Here's some pics of the picks:

Schlage locks are good. Don't get caught with those picks by the police they can and will charge u with having lock picks and not being a locksmith.

You need Medeco locks.

Get the really cheap ones and mount them upside down. They do it in the ghetto up here. Not sure if they do it on puropse, or out of stupidity, but I have never been able to get a lock if it is upside down. I quess I need to practice them more.

Do you mean so that the barrel rotation is backwards? Guess I'm not getting it..

I think because the pins have to push up. Normally spring pressure and gravity keep the pins fully extended.

But spring pressure will keep the pins extended no matter what orientation the lock is in. The only difference upside down would be if you are picking SPP. In that case, telling which pins have set may be more difficult, but in all reality I don't think so. Here's why: Once pins have set, the spring tension on the pin is eliminated within the lock barrel. Once that happens, if the lock is upside down the pin will fall to the bottom of the barrel, effectively making it EASIER to determine which pins are set.

OKAY well...off I go to flip one of my cheapo deadbolts upside down and attempt to pick it.....

Thats my nemisis! Take a cheap deadbolt and spin it 180 degrees from how you would properly install it (so the shear line is at 6 o'clock instead of 12 o'clock). Even knobs installed this way give me fits. I think its mostly in my head at this point.

Stand on your head.

Seriously... I think the reason they're harder to pick upside down is because your subconsious muscle memory must be reversed. If you pick a lot of locks, you don't even think about it, you go on "autopilot" mentally and just do it. I'm a pro locksmith, and it is harder for me too.... maybe even more so because of what I just said. I've got to "adjust" mentally, and think more about what I'm doing. You do need somewhat of a lighter touch, because the weight of the bottom pins are resting on the springs, and with gravity with you, instead of against, it doesn't take much effort to depress a pin as opposed to raise it... especially for those longer tumblers for deeply cut keys, like a Schlage #9 cut.

Organized lock pickers, IIRC, 12 year girls can open a Medeco in 7 seconds (I really don't by all that but yes they can be compromised).

I like Medeco for brute strength real world protection, Abloy Protec if you are expecting a Toool attack. There is a nice cutting tool you can buy to compromise a Protec quickly.

Bi-Lock & Mul-T-Lock are also good locks.

TOOOL

yeah we make a sport of cracking locks. I was just at DEFCON with the TOOOL group it was fun.

MEdicos are pretty simple after you get the hang of what you are doing.

google marc weber tobias medico and watch the videos.

yes after the side bar is compromised they can be bumped.

Send me a PM if you are interested in TOOOL

time log

there are drill attacks on all locks. I have an S&G 833 from a job that according to time logs the guy got into in 15 minutes. and that is wiht the anti drill plate on it.

thing was covered with coolant and the fucker knew what he was doing. one of these BIG ASS LOCKS if you were in the service you will know it

IIRC.

Mult lock is very good, I have heard and seen youtubes of people bumping them but I have yet to do it. So they are all safe from me.

Problem with this hobby is you really start thinking that every crook is a super criminal. So you go crazy with it.
