THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT Is there a good dependable company that sells solar lighting with good throw or even better a solar lighting system with ability to be hooked up to the grid when the batteries die? I have a few trial solar path lights so I know my property will get enough sun to power them on many days but they are cheap harbor freight stuff not dependable lighting. If not then I'm ok running them off power is there a way then to have a battery rigged for if the power dies? |

Just an FYI update, I purchased three sets of solar lights from lowes for about $90 total. Each set has three lights that run off one solar panel and you can daisy chain the lights to reach further than the cord for just one light. I now have 360 degree coverage on my deck and around my home. Even in the usually overcast WA these actually work rather well all things considered. On sunny days they run until dawn easily before the auto sensor kicks in. On overcast days I'm getting to about 1 or 2 am. They cast the bluish led light but it's not that bad. The best way I can describe it is it's good emergency lighting if you heard a noise outside and went out without a flashlight handy. I set it up mostly pointing away from the house so I don't blind myself but intruders have a hard time seeing on approach. It's not security flood light bright but I think of it as a good first line deterrent with motion activated wired floods coming in second. I'm going to finish by hardening my door jambs and I'm thinking hard about security filming my windows. For $90 invested and about 15 minutes of setup i think you could do worse, it's free to run and in a power outage I'll still have perimeter lighting.
