If you are near a Menards they sell slat wall. Unfinished or finished and you can add the aluminum trim if you want.Attachment Attached File

This is an awesome thread.  Can't believe I didn't stumble across it before.  Here is my humble submission which is still a work in progress.  I'll include progression pics.

This was around Nov 2020 when I started finishing my basement:

Framed up and drywall started:

This is that same corner in February 2021 when I had the room framed up and electrical run and spray foam done (officially becoming the gun room):

Butcher block countertop that was to become my work bench:

Installing bench in the gun room (August 2021) (outlets are still crooked because reasons):

Making a homemade hidden door for the gun room:

Shelves for the gun room:

Used the same wall brackets and butcher block for my desk on the wall outside of the gun room, but with a stain:

Desk, finished, outside of the gun room:

Toolbox installed and reloading presses bolted down:

Current state, a bit messy, with this thread visible on the monitor outside:

Work in progress because I have a few outstanding things I've planned but not implemented:

* wall storage system, cabinets, etc
* homemade hidden door is sagging (big surprise)
* electro/magnetic lock for hidden door (currently closes with a door closer)
* additional safe or cabinet... maybe something small like a Securit Agile or something

OK, I'll take one for the team: why did you install 87 electrical outlets?

Damn, that is swanky. I would love to do this when I build my next house. I like that Calumet High School banner.

WOLVERINES

Thanks. I’m about 85% finished.  I still have a few more things to do.

Thanks.  I still have more storage to build out.  I want the walk-in safe to have a professional look to it.  A lot of gun safe and a little safe room.

Did something new with my handgun racks. Found these 55 degree mounts on Amazon. They’re space savers and pretty rugged.

Used them on my S&W wall as well.

Next will be filling the old screw holes and painting the backboards.

Because every workbench I've ever had ended up with a super sized power strip on it and I figured outlets beats power strip for getting power where I need across a workbench.  I will probably do roughly the same when I build my shop, in the corner getting workbenches and toolboxes.

Any update on the shop? Were you able to keep the moisture out?

You should do this for a living. Design and implement these types of things

Was the door taken from a safe? Or do they actually sell them?

Great work area. Plenty or room to work and do just about anything. Does it second as your panic room?

As far as a retrofit secure door whether it be a vault door or a steel door is everyone using?  I’ve been looking at the Viz-Pro doors on Amazon but no idea if they are good.

When I lived in Connecticut we had a home with an unfinished basement.
I wanted to turn a small spot tucked between the stairs and the wall into a gun area.

I used plans I found on Lowe’s website to make a workbench in my garage and I did the same this time.
I adjusted for a shorter, narrower design but it is a solid work surface.

There is a sewer pipe that I carefully worked around to make shelving and supports. I bought a cheap
gun cabinet and using a concrete nail gun anchored the workbench and the cabinet to the basement
walls in a couple of spots.

It’s hard to see but the wall of the stairway has pegboard for hanging small stuff.

I made the shelves just high enough for ammo cans.

To reduce shadows and make it easier to find what I drop I put some cheap strings of LEDs under the workbench and some of the shelves.

Another vote for Menards slat wall!  Very cheap compared to the other options that sell 4'x4' panels for ridiculous amounts.............

how important is it for the slat wall to have those aluminum channels?  for load-bearing, resist pull-out?  just wondering if that's critical.  I'm sure that's a cost driver.

I only have the aluminum channels for my pistol holders, the rifles do not use them.  The pistol holders I used required them, you could use different ones that don’t require them.

Went with GallowTech. Did a trial mount up.

Disappointed 2 of 4 panels came damaged when received. Over a month ago Gallowtech said they’d replace damaged parts but heard nothing since then. Will update if they ever follow through. Spent 2 hours reshaping bent steel with a pile of metal working tools I have to get it mountable. Powder coating was gone and damage occurred before they shipped. They shipped within double cardboard boxes which was undamaged when arrived.

The war wall is still a work in progress and plan to order more Gallowtech stuff.
