Hi all,

I am in the market for my first bolt action precision rifle and have decided on the sig SSG 3000. After taking a class at the sig academy I am able to get the rifle for $1100. The primary purpose for me will be some deer hunting and mid range target shooting...the 18 inch is on back order for a while and the 24 is available...looking for some guidance on which way I should go and way.

Thanks,
Russ

For deer, an 11.5 - 12lb rifle is going to be heavy. If it were me, I would look at something like a Remington LTR.

The difference in performance between the 24 and 18" isn't going to show up until you are out past 700 yards.  Inside that they are equals.

Dont know how the gun market is in new york but i say get the 24" now and cut it down to 20". Thats a soild 600+ yard gun. Unless it cost an arm and a leg up there to get it cut. Thats also a good time to thread it for a suppressor for later, if your allowed.

If you are going to suppress or need a shorter rifle - 18". Otherwise - 24".
