Not yet. About a week ago they posted on facebook that they hoped to have info for the Russian model and coversion kits soon. So I wouldn't expect it on shelves for at least 4-6 weeks.

I think it might be quite a while until we see an xi in 7.62X39.

Hi,

I think SIG may be thinking that besides the AK magazine, that they may go with a STANAG magazine variant in 7.62x39 also.  Several STANAG magazines in 7.62x39 are or will be coming out in 7.62x39 in the next few months.  The newer 7.62x39 STANAG mags in my experience can be very reliable.

Best Wishes:-)

Think no longer, they showed off that configuration a long time ago. It's just a standard lower with a Russian upper. Anyone with a Russian varient would be able to just buy a standard lower and run that setup.

If you wanted to run the stanmag lower I would get the regular 5.56 and a 7.62 conversion kit, assuming these kits are ever sold.

Any indication of what a conversion setup would cost?
I'm looking at getting it in 7.62x39 to use as the base for a night time pig hunting rifle.
Would like to switch out to 5.56 if needed.

Well, they sell the lowers for $300. So, that's known. The list of other parts you'd need for conversion would be:
1. Barrel _assembly_, probably including gas knob.
2. Handguard and gas tube (remember, not all of them are short gas or long gas).
3. New bolt
4. Barrel wrench (because it's not a "real" QD barrel)

I could see $700-$800 for the complete conversion package, easily.

Yeah, my impatience already turned the Sig money into a POF-5 with arm brace set up. Now the XI Russian has been pushed into next years plans. If it can come out by then.

But a few weeks ago on their facebook they said;

"Sept. 3rd: Peter, we expect to start shipping SIG556xi Russians to distributors in the next few weeks. Keep an eye on this page for an update when that happens."

So that should be any day now. We'll see.

I called sig customer service last week and asked him if they had a release date for the xi Russian and he told me they were 4 - 8 weeks from shipping out.....I been waiting all year and my luck ill be forever getting ahold of one when they do release. I want to see a couple reviews first and make sure they don't have any problems out of them like the first generation 556r's did

Curious about these myself............I've wanted to get back into 7.62x39 and not get an AK. It's either this or chuck it and buy an MPX with brace to shoot the zillion rounds of 9mm I have

Yeah, I am getting a little impatient on this myself, if they don't release soon, I will probably end up getting the 556R.

556xi 7.62x39 pistol  12" barrel with a brace on it would be great gun to have.

If Sig screws around much longer, we'll build the conversion kits.

P.S.  Here's the .458 SOCOM conversion up and running.

Picking up a 556xi tomorrow. How is it that the lower on the XI doesn't need a serial number? Just curious.
Link Posted: 9/24/2014 11:23:31 PM EDT
[#19]
Because,  unlike an AR, but like a FAL, the upper is the serialized "firearm".  The lower on a sig 550 series is akin to the upper on an AR in terms of it being a part instead of the actual firearm.
