Went to the range today with my new 556R. It had a build date of August 2012 so it has all the fixes or whatever Sig changed  that troubled the earlier rifles. Ran roughly 300 rounds of cheap Tula ammo thru it without a single issue. Used the supplied Tapco mag, old surplus Chinese mags and some new cheap ass metal mags from Wideners, Trigger has a lot of take up but breaks surprisingly well. Take up is predictable though and didn't bother me. Red dot that came with worked fine but it is a cheap Chinese knockoff and certainly wouldn't stake my life on it. The rear sling mount did hit my nose a couple times before I removed it. Most likely due to the way I was shouldering it and looking thru the tiny red dot. Recoil is quite manageable and could get follow up shots off quickly. Accuracy was beyond my expectations. At 100yds it was easy to hit a 4" plate as fast as you could sight and pull.  Was able to hit a 14"x14" plate at 300yds with only a slightly higher aiming point. Plan on running another 300 or so before cleaning. So far so good. Will report back on further range tests.

Here are some pics. Put a Troy Claymore brake on. Have one on my AR and its the balls. Drives the gun straight back. Nearly no muzzle rise and it looks bad ass.Have a troy quad rail on the way also, Will post more pics,Should be back to the range later this week for another beating. Will report.

I know this is an AR15 forum but my new 556R has replaced the AR15 I used to take on road trips.

I believe the more I shoot it the better I'll like it.

I have had a few ar's in my day and still have a uber tricked out one. But I am sold on the simpicity of the operating system of the 556, It is a bit heavy and will gain almost another pound with the Troy rail thats on the way but that wont bother me one bit. Next time to the range I will shoot some paper and see what kinda groups it can do. Here is a write up on shooting 1260 rounds straight out of the box. Incredible.

The 556r comes with a so so at best red dot. the 556 comes with diopter sights. I would rather have diopter,Not a big fan of batteries.

Thanks for sharing! I own 2012 Sig 556 Classic Swat and love it! Ran approximately 2500 rounds without cleaning it in between and had ZERO malfunctions. Very pleased with the Sig 5XX performance.

I own a AK that I love and meets all my 7.62x39 needs lol,  but really considering a 556R! Heard nothing but good things.

Nice, thanks for posting the pics.  I really have ended up liking my 556r but have been frustrated by the lack of a good flip BUIS that would work with the factory red dot.  I get that the dot is not the best, but I like the low mounting height and was not really looking to spend the money on a "good" red dot for it.  The rail in interesting, especially if it lets you run the Troy mico flips.  Not like that setup is cheap either...

Really wish either Sig or a shop like Troy would make a set of flips that would work on these rifles...  I love it otherwise.
