Yes, there have been a couple of upgrades to the newer rifles one of which is a steel insert into the lower receiver to keep the steel AK magazines from wearing front of the aluminum lower receiver. Supposedly the ignition parts have been upgraded as well to help ignite the hard commie primers.

The new ones are coming with the upgrades as well as a swiss stock now instead of the extendable. Mine was prior the upgrade, has been upgraded and eats any kind of ammo you throw at it zero FTE's or issues.

And it accepts most types of AK mags no problem? Are there any types of iron sights that are calibrated for the standard 7.62x39 round?

I am not sure about calibrated iron sights, however I use the TROY micro battle sights and they work great.

Does the Sig556R still have THIS problem, where the rounds fall back into the action?

Also, can you order one with a fixed front sight post for iron sight shooting? If not, how do you remedy that situation?

Just picked up my new 556R today. The gun is straight and tight. Very well made. I took it to the range after work and blasted 60 rounds of Wolf and Yugo. Ate every round and its accurate. No problems what so ever. The steel AK mags lock in like my 551A1 mags do. No rattle and rock solid.

Mine had the stock extension in the case along with the 3 rails for the forarm. Cant figure out how to take teh regular Swiss butt plate off and put tye longer extension on.

My new 556R has the Nitride treatment on the Gas Tube and valve just like my 551A1. Are they all coming that way now?

I just bought one two days ago after reading some articles and watching some Youtube video reviews. From what I can tell, mine has the steel shelf where the front of the magazine connects. I haven't had the time to go out and shoot it yet. I've been trying my AK mags for fit and most of them seem to fit like they are supposed to.

I want to know how I can upgrade the rifle to have iron sights. They ship it out with a cut off front sight post and no rear sight.

I actually love it the way it came. I have to take off teh Sig front sight on all of mine because you need a 4X power scope to see past it. Wish my other SIg 556 rifles came that way.

Dovetail for the front sight, can use any of the ones available from Sig USA, Mfiap, Aurora, Sig SAN, MI, etc.
