I just looked at one yesterday at Sportsman's Warehouse. The Swiss style stock that is coming on them now is non adjustable and locks up very solid for a much better feel. Also, if you are getting the SWAT model, Sig is now using the one piece SWAT rail and it forms a continuous top rail and gives the rifle a much more solid feel. My Sig556 is 2 years old and I haven't had a single issue with it except deciding on which rail to put on it!

I am a complete newb to Sig 556, I assume the regular handguards are not free float - are the SWAT rails free float?
I'm not even sure I care though since this will be my 0-300ish yards gun w/ a 1-4 scope.. |

Welcome to the Sig556 family. We were all newbs once. Everyone on here is more than happy to help. The rail is not free floating. The new SWAT rail attaches to the top of the receiver, into the boyonette lug, and at the front take down pin. It's quite solid and has a great feel.

Stock will be the least of your problems, the bolt carrier smashing into the receiver, poor accuracy, horrible quality sights, rail coming loose, broken bolt catch etc will be the larger issues.

I had one & it had all of the above problems!!! The factory didn't even know how to fix it at the time. This was 1 1/2 years ago, so maybe they have figured it out by now. Good Luck! |

squirrell18 has been bitching about this for a long time. I mown 4 of them and all work fine. Great accuracy and function. My Classis SWAT was made in 2009 and runs like a top with no issues.
Some guys on this forum just like to bitch and complain about stuff from years ago. I personally know of at least 6 other people at our range that have purchased a new 556 in the past yaer and all are happy with their purchase. Look at the lst time someone posted a real problem with new 556 in the past year. Just a few little girls who want to wine about a gun purvchased long ago. I'd like to bitch about a CHevy I bought back in 96. Real lemon. But them I just bought another car and forgot about it. Some here just can't let go. |

I am sending my Classic SWAT back for the second time. First the top rail was twisted in the middle to where I couldn't zero the iron sights. I got it back and though the rail was straight, I still can not sight the irons in because the gas block is crooked. It didn't matter too much because I was running a red dot on it, but since i'm selling it, I could not sell it in good faith knowing the gas block is canted.
And after much opposition to the "It's too heavy" sissy haters, I have decided that it is in fact too front heavy... When I shoot my 19 oz suppressor. I could either make it a benchrest rifle with a scope, or try to do some Magpul shit with it unsuppressed. I am not feeling either option, so I'm selling it and SBR'ing either the patrol or pistol model.

When was your made. I've got the same Classic SWAT (2) made it 08 and in 09 and both of mine were straight as an arrow. Yea, they do tend to be a little heavy on the front end and my YHM Pahntom Suppressor does add even more weight to it. The Classic is lighter up front and has a better balance. I may take the rail off one of mine and replace it with the Swiss handguards and swiss folding stock. |

Is it just me or do the photos of the new 556 models on the SIG site not show a bolt release button? Do the new ones not have this feature?

I really wish Sig would pay for a decent photochopper. If you look it's a mirror image of the right side of the rifle. It has a magazine release and push pins on both sides of the receiver

The newest classics come with real Swiss stocks for as low as $925. That is a fuggin bargain!
