Desert Punk, did you have fitment issues with your DDLES cap? I was given a 551 handguard, so i bought a cap to try it out, and had to do some fudging to get it to fit under the gas block, and then sand a taper on the handguard to get it to fit. heres a pic that has my current setup |

Eventually this will wear an Aimpoint T-1 in LaRue mid-height mount. Not pictured is the Swiss Arms railed fore-end that I was fortunate to score from Larry Gaglio when he was clearing out all his SIG stuff a few months ago. It is a Swiss Arms product improved variant of the B&T 552 rail that is made from billet aluminum as opposed to the B&T which I seem to recall Larry telling me started life as a casting. This rifle started life a one of the first series of 556 rifles. I sent it to Frank Hatten at Antique and Modern Arms. He modified the 556 receiver and barrel to 552 spec, then used the parts from my 552 kit (which was also purchased from Larry Gaglio, but about 3 years ago). More pics to follow once it is complete, but here are a few that Frank sent me of the build in progress: http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/567/joshs552leftinprogress.jpg http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/7554/joshs552rightinprogress.jpg That thing is awesome looking. OK forgive me but Im new to the sig rifles completely. Ive fired the 556 (the new one) but never the 552. Is your 552 select fire? And you converted the 556 using the 552 lower to make it select fire also? Do you mind me asking how much you got into the conversion/parts etc? Im wondering how affordable it is to follow your route? Thanks |

Im wondering how affordable it is to follow your route? Thanks No, semiauto only. I do not have an FFL/SOT so no post-1986 fullautos for me (or any other individual). The lower was converted to semiauto only, which is a very simple task. In total I have around $4700 in this rifle. It is much more reasonable to buy a 556 Pistol, register it as a SBR, then have the work done to convert it to a more Swiss-spec rifle (ie welding on rear diopter sight housing and/or Swiss-pattern optics rail to the receiver). Keep in mind that the Swiss lower takes proprietary mags, which at minimum cost around $55 each. Another option is to just buy one of the factory Sig 556 SBRs for around $2200 and be done with it. You will get a lower with a Swiss-type folding stock, but will take inexpensive AR15/M16 mags. |

I think the design is a press fit. |

Millennium Forend (M520A). Bought it for a super deal as it is a take off from a SWAT gun. Going to change the head to LED so I can have a bit more run time. They aren't cheap, and if I didn't find the deal, I wouldn't have bought it. Now that I have it, it is a great addition... almost what it's worth retail. |

On one occasion I had a FT-FEED, and twice FT-FIRE. The gun is a little beat up, but she's still very close to my heart. |

I finally got a SIG 556. Took forever to save up for it but I am glad I waited since I like the SIG 556 SWAT Patrol the best and it just came out recently. I am thinking I will make it my 3 gun rifle. All I need to do now is add a scope. I am thinking either Trijicon ACOG Ta33g or a Leupold MArk 4 CQT.
