C_Swimm can you please provide some info on that spotting scope tripod & dual mount
Link Posted: 8/6/2014 10:04:39 PM EDT
[#18]
The Tripod is an Ashbury Precision Ordnance. The dual mount was something I was playing with. It's actually a side mount bracket for a cheap LED camera flash I picked up on clearance a while ago. I was just trying to figure out a way to make a plate or bracket to mount the Leupold MK4 spotter inverted to the side and also mount my Bushnell Elite 1500 Laser Range Finder. I was searching on line for some 1/4 20 threaded knob handle bolts for an idea I was playing around with and I remembered I had some on that camera flash bracket. I pulled it out and was going to scavenge the knobs from it when I realized I might be able to make the bracket work for what I was wanting. It worked ok but was a little on the flimsy side for my tastes.

On the way home from the gun club I stopped at Lowes and bought some Aluminum bar stock, a couple threaded knobs and a some grip strips (adhesive foam rubber strips).

I cut off a piece of the aluminum bar and drilled holes an inch in from each end for the knobs to go through. Then I drilled another hole off set to one side and threaded it to 1/4 20 threads for the tripod's quick release plate to attach to. I covered the top and bottom surfaces with the grip strips so the scope and LRF wouldn't rotate so easily when tightened down. It is a lot more solid feeling that the camera flash bracket.

I just finished it. here are some pics I just took with the iphone.

Is the top a 551 SBR? Look like that might be a flash hider extension on it though. What is the length on the second one? 17 or 18"?

Top one is a SAN Swiss 551-2 SP with permanently attached extension to get to 16". The 2nd one is a factory US made 551A1 with a San Swiss steel lower and factory 551A1 barrel..

New 922r Compliant 553 SBR.  Former owner of the 553 pistol (got it on ee) - can see it grow up to see it's full potential (of course that is short of being F/A).

This rifle has morphed over the years. Recently it had a big scope and bipod on it making it very heavy. But I have a .308 AR with AGOG and bipod that fits the scoped semi auto role better.
So I picked up an eotech and hit the range with my old war horse.

The only semi auto rifle I have owned to never fail to function. Never failed at making me smile.
The only non russian rifle I own the eats steel cased ammo like candy.

First batch, early serial number, crooked rail(fixed now),  fixed stock Sig 556.
It was delegated to tertiary rifle. Now it sits once again with a full mag as primary go to ass kicker.

I know they got discontinued, but for a dual-lum or better option, that allows good use w/o the cheekriser, hard to beat.  Taking it out this weekend, looking forward to seeing the results.
