So my brother-in-law recently get into guns and want to buy his own rifle. He ask me about the question 12.a. on form 4473 (since I am the only one has multiple guns in family ) but I am not sure how to answer that.

He is naturalized US citizen and also has UK citizenship.
In question 12.a Country of Citizenship, should he just check United States of America (U.S.A) only or need to check other country/countries (specify) as well?

I read the fine note near the question --> ( check/list more than one, if applicable....)
I assume he needs to check both and write UK on the blank(?)

The US doesn't recognize dual citizenship.

Don't over think it. He's a US citizen. Check the box and move on.

The WRONG was in reference to US and dual citizens.

I am a dual citizen and only check US.

It matters not.

You're wrong...

Read the current version of the 4473 and follow the instructions, it clearly outlines what you're supposed to do!

Don't nobody got time to read the directions!
It's far easier to just take a wild assed guess based on feels.

I had hoped that the new 4473 would cut down on errors, unanswered questions and similar jackassery.........I was wrong.

I wonder if anyone at ATF ever consults with an actual dealer when they design these forms.

Guess what? Yes it is their business.
When you sign the 4473 you are certifying under penalty of law that your answers are true, correct and complete.

If you forget, misunderstand, fail, space out or just don't know.............tough shit. You violated Federal law.
A Form 4473 is serious business, yet rarely treated as a document that could cause you to go to Federal prison, be fined or at the very least lose your right to possess ANY firearm for the rest of your life.

But go ahead and stick to the "No fucking business" defense.....it worked for Bruce Abramski.

Just curious… My mom is not an American citizen, but a permanent green card holder. Can she legally buy guns?

A legal permanent resident can legally buy and own a gun under federal law if not otherwise disqualified.

Everyone has to have one to buy a firearm, right??

Good comparison.

You're right. Please denounce your US citizenship and go back to your other country.

Yeah it is silly.

Lots of people are dual citizens and do not even know it.
